Californias State Assembly on Thursday approved legislation to let undocumented students apply for college scholarships. But only Democrats voted for the bill. Assembly Republicans say it makes no sense to offer financial aid to students who have no legal right to live and work in California.
Under the California Dream Act, only students whove attended a California high school for at least three years may apply for college scholarships but only for those that private donors underwrite. Assemblyman Gil Cedillo of Los Angeles said these students deserve at least that much.
These young men and women were brought here through no choice of their own, brought as infants and toddlers, says Cedillo, and within one generation theyve learned our language, embraced our culture and have become some of the best and brightest in our higher education system.
Republican Assemblyman Chris Norby agreed that undocumented minors deserve a break. But he said California shouldnt provide it until the federal government gives the children of illegal immigrants the right to live and work legally in this country.
This bill is like a coach of a team saying Yeah, Ill let you on the team, and Ill make you practice, youll do the wind sprints, youll go through all the drills, but I cant legally let you in the game. And if I do Ill be punished, says Norby.
To bolster his argument, the Orange County Republican referred to an employer who lost his business because hed violated federal law by hiring undocumented workers.
While it may be illegal to hire them, it is not illegal to educate them, he says.
Cedillo responded that its better to prepare for the day undocumented students might gain citizenship: by educating all Californias students to the fullest extent possible.

REFERENCE Corrupt Third World federales across the border can't get their greedy hands on US billions fast enough. The focus needs to be changed from deportation to arresting these lowlifes for treason.
It's become evident that within their secret enclaves, illegals are conspiring to collude to build a Third World inside the US----- preparing for the takeover.
BUILDING A THIRD WORLD INSIDE THE US RULED BY MILITARY FORCE They came here from poverty-stricken hovels, financed by corrupt Third World governments, the advance shock troops for what they think is a takeover that will rule by military force. They are determined to decimate US customs, culture and customs and the US rule of law. Case after case clearly shows illiterate invaders, MS-13 gangs, and their savage cadres, are America-haters, invading the US to kill Americans. The FBI reports El Salvador's brutal MS-13 gangs saturating the US, have killed more US citizens than Al Quada killings all over the world. Third World military juntas are attempting to undermine US justice. The juntas demand that the US Attorney suspend deportations of marauding latino criminals on US soil.
This presages the Third World the are building on US soil. The invaders are armed with a savage determination to take-back the SW (reconquista) by forming fraudulent voting blocs, using any means possible---scams that are patently illegal. The stupids actually think that b/c American are laid back that we are "frail white people" unable to fight back. This from savage primitives, illiterate Third Worlders, accustomed to military juntas patrolling the streets in camouflage and shoulder holsters.

I hope and pray every day I’m not only alive, but also right smack dab in the middle of it.
And miss out on the fun? I'd rather die in it.
