Sounds like you've been "hijacked"...you're giving a bunch of "barnacles" a free ride.

There are a lot of freebie apps to get those bats out of your computer's belfry.

Try a search using the words
"identical search results"
and see what happens.

Sounds like you have the TDL3 or TDSS root kit or some variant. It’s a redirect virus. If that doesn’t work you need to get Combofix from bleepingcomputer.com You can get the TDSS removal tool from here:

Different search engines use different algorithms (rules and formulas) for how they search. Also, their databases are from BOTs, little bits of software code that move around the internet searching for data to put into indexes or search tables which are then called upon when you enter criteria. Naturally, different egine BOTs will find different stuff. The freaky thing would be if all the engines returned the same data.

Let’s say you’re looking for information on how to be a stewardess. You enter, “Stewardess, hot and skanky, video.” The search engine returns “Stewardesses in training,” “Hard time at 50,000 feet,” and “Stewardesses hard at work.”

See how simple that is?

This does not answer your problem, but since you mention search sites, keep in mind that Google records your IP
for everything you do on their sites.
I use StartPage for all my searches.
They never record your IP.

When you recover, I recommend using startpage as your search engine just to spread the love around! Read about it here:

http://us2.startpage.com/eng/aboutstartpage/

Startpage search engine protects your Privacy! Startpage does NOT record your IP address! More comprehensive search results. When you search with Startpage search engine, you are searching many popular search engines simultaneously and anonymously. Combined, these engines cover more of the Internet than any one search engine alone.

Search engines all use different methods so results may vary. However, if you are being redirected to questionable sites then you may have a browser hijacker. Super antispyware Link is free and effective.

Could be you picked up a nasty case of redirect virus. Had it on mine and now the system is whacked. Tried everything to fix it and nothing worked. Was I dizzy from going around in circles for days! I’ve saved what little sanity I have and started using my daughters laptop. Oh, I did have Norton installed on the laptop.

Sorry I can’t say much to help you but if you figure something out give me a ring.

Watch this and you’ll understand:
http://www.ted.com/talks/eli_pariser_beware_online_filter_bubbles.html

About this talk

As web companies strive to tailor their services (including news and search results) to our personal tastes, there’s a dangerous unintended consequence: We get trapped in a “filter bubble” and don’t get exposed to information that could challenge or broaden our worldview. Eli Pariser argues powerfully that this will ultimately prove to be bad for us and bad for democracy.
