That’s a fun program to use.

Be careful with this program, because what you delete will be gone.

I once deleted some files that allowed Windows to reboot.

Try rebooting?

Rebooting does not change the search engines servers. It will only effect the system he is currently running. In other words it is useless in changing the search result.

I'll be waiting for that joke, Alex! Meanwhile, here is a good place to start when you are ready to search The Invisible Web!

Experts say that typical search engines like Yahoo! and Google only pick up about 1% of the information available on the Internet. The rest of that information is considered to be hidden in the deep web, also referred to as the invisible web. So how can you find all the rest of this information? This list offers 100 tips and tools to help you get the most out of your Internet searches.

Search engines all use different methods so results may vary. However, if you are being redirected to questionable sites then you may have a browser hijacker. Super antispyware Link is free and effective.

Its important to keep your computer updated with current patches. Do that and be careful what you install and most of these problems can be avoided.

If an unexpected box does pop up never ever hit OK or Cancel. Some of these bozo’s use both to indicate user acceptance.

Thanks for that. It was easy. I am a fairly private person, or at least I don’t want my online activities recorded and used for who knows what purposes.

Could be you picked up a nasty case of redirect virus. Had it on mine and now the system is whacked. Tried everything to fix it and nothing worked. Was I dizzy from going around in circles for days! I’ve saved what little sanity I have and started using my daughters laptop. Oh, I did have Norton installed on the laptop.

Sorry I can’t say much to help you but if you figure something out give me a ring.

I am not very computer savy, but I figured out to just shut down the machine when that happens. Them things can be very persistant.

BleepingComputer is a great site where knowledgeable folks can help with computer viruses, hijacks, scams, etc.

Use this link to get started.

You’re generally safe hitting the red x in the top of the window. Or you can open Task Manager and kill the process.

Shutting down the PC works too.

Thanks for the link. I can’t even run xp repair. I start the download to repair and I get to just before the installation starts and it says it needs a file and gives the name of the file, which should be on the cd drive, however, this is the file it needs to find in order to continue with the repair installation and it can’t be found. I’ve been chasing my tail on this one for days now. I’ll give that link a try.

Watch this and you’ll understand:
http://www.ted.com/talks/eli_pariser_beware_online_filter_bubbles.html

About this talk

As web companies strive to tailor their services (including news and search results) to our personal tastes, there’s a dangerous unintended consequence: We get trapped in a “filter bubble” and don’t get exposed to information that could challenge or broaden our worldview. Eli Pariser argues powerfully that this will ultimately prove to be bad for us and bad for democracy.

I know you can download an open source “No scripts” program for Firefox, but is there anything similar for Internet Explorer?

I use StartPage for all my searches.

Do you have an address for that? I would prefer not to use Google to find it.
That would be ironic, plus, Google may have some way of tagging things you originally found using Google and then following you around in the future even if you don't use Google. That site is beginning to scare me.
