King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) is a brutal tyrant on a bloody mission to seek out the mythical Bow of Epirus. Should he succeed, even the Gods of Olympus will be forced to bow before him. In his efforts to locate the invincible and elusive weapon, Hyperion leads his Heraklion army on a brutal rampage across Greece, razing every town in their path, and killing with impunity. When the Hyperions lay waste to his village and cut down his mother in cold blood, vengeful stonemason Theseus (Henry Cavill) emerges from the rubble determined to make the king pay for his crimes. Later, the Sybelline Oracle, Phaedra (Freida Pinto), experiences a vision of Theseus' future that convinces her he will play a pivotal role in defeating King Hyperion. Two of my all-time favorite historical novels were about Theseus, written by Mary Renault in the 50’s, I think. The King Must Die and The Bull From The Sea. With the proper budget they’d make one hell of a couple of movie’s. I highly recommend them if you want a closer picture of her take on the real Theseus’ life.

The immortals protected Cyrus and his heirs ,when one died another one stepped up to protect them, hence they are immortal.
I guess rewriting history is cool.
Got it in my netflix que..

The Immortals of Greek mythology are different than the Persian Immortals. The former are children of men and gods (such as Hades, Helios, Ares, etc). The Persian Immortals were the imperial guard of Herodotus.

The plot sounds like a loose re-imagining of Steven Pressfield’s The Gates of Fire.

In that book a young boy and his cousin are left homeless after a rival Greek city’s army destroys their farm. The vows revenge and tries to enlist in the Spartan army. Too late, he learns, he can only be a slave with the hope of becoming a warrior-squire to a real Spartan hoplite. His cousin becomes a acolyte among the priestesses of Persephone. The boy, who is adept with a bow, receives visions from Apollo Far Seeker (armed with a bow) that he is destined to play an important role among the Spartans.

Eventually, the boy becomes a young man and a warrior-squire to a Spartan platoon commander and joins the force of 300 under Leonidas that defends the pass at Thermopylae—the Gates of Fire—from the Persian army. He actually joins a raid on Darius’ camp that ends in disaster. He is later captured when Darius’ Persians overrun the Spartans. He is mortally wounded and slowly dying but tells Darius of the Spartans and foretells of the Persians’ doom if they continue to overrun Greece. The Persians are finally smashed at Platea by the entire Spartan army.

Well this is coming from the producers of 300. Remember they made Xerxes look like some 10 feet tall cross dresser?

They played lose with the legend of the 300.

They are playing lose again with this legend. Don’t take it personal.

Ah i see your point i looked at the clip and they looked like the Persian Immortals..
I believe you are confusing Herodotus,he was the author of Histories.
I think it was Cyrus the Great who first started the immortals and then his heirs such as Cyrus 2 and Xerxes carried it on.

“King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke)” — see, now that’s just good casting (snicker).

Before reading the topic, I thought it might be about the Thebans, but no such luck. Thanks Perdogg.
