The Saudis have far more influence in Islamabad than most people think.

The Saudis, the Turks and the Pakistanis have all concluded that President Barack Obama is most likely to be re-elected next year. That conclusion implies that a big investment in Obama is worth the effort.

What investment have the Saudis ALREADY made in Obama? Did they help pay for his college or law school? How much Saudi money found its way into Organizing for America?

Enquiring minds want to know.

The “giving up Osama to re-elect Obama” theory would be more plausible if it happened closer to election. This will largely be forgotten come election time.

However, if the Kingdom wants Obama re-elected, they might start increasing oil output to drive down the cost which would be helpful.

The OBL killing may just be the start of an soap opera of such killings. Obama gets to look tough and also prepares to wind down things in Afghanistan. Two campaign promises at once.

There is zero chance O-almost 10% unemployment-bummer will be reelected. Bank on it. Anyone saying otherwise is propagandizing.

Saudis still need a power country to back them up, and China/Russia is being offered the role of backup in lieu of questionable US behavior. The abandonment of Mubarak send a signal to the House of Saud that they will not end up like the Shah of Iran. Given a choice between China or Russia, China is more desirable because they want only oil and not interfere in the internal affairs of a nation like US or predatory Russians. First clue that China and Russia may bite at offer, Iran finds that the two who in the past supported her now adhere more to the UN sanctions. Is Saudi offer and the prospect of being guardian to the world’s largest oil fields and the power/prestige that goes with it when they replace the US too good to turn down??!!! The biggest loser in this game would be Iran. The next biggest loser will be the US.

What the Saudis are seeking is to translate a broad convergence of their own survival instincts with US interests in an Arab world which is in ferment.

This article has a smell of ferment.

What do you think of the idea that Pakistan is Saudi Arabia's nuclear proxy?

However, when fall of 2012 rolls around, I’m thinking that will be just about the right time for the administration to release the pictures of OBL that they are currently, and conveniently, refusing to release.

The Saudis and Libyans bankrolled the Paki ‘Islamic bomb’ in the 70s. There have been plenty of reports of a renewed engagement between the two; these range from either basing of Pakistani missiles in the kingdom to outright purchases.
