New revelations about the raid that killed Osama bin Laden reveal that the SEAL raiders encountered a false door and found a small arsenal of weapons, including an AK-47 assault rifle in bin Laden's bedroom.
As the Navy SEALs have been debriefed about their mission that left the al Qaeda leader dead, the White House has been forced to correct details of what happened during Sunday's raid at bin Laden's Abbottabad compound.
Despite the changes in the White House version of what happened during the 40 minute raid on bin Laden's sprawling million dollar mansion, officials were unapologetic about the SEALs' actions.
"These guys are American heroes. They were told to kill bin Laden. We've had the authority to kill bin Laden since 9/11. And that's exactly what they did," a U.S. official told ABC News.
The SEALs were already in a heightened and aggressive posture, but that was exacerbated when one of the first doors they tried to open turned out to be a false door. The bricked off, false door put the military members in a position of suspecting that the house would be full of such items, perhaps with lethal booby traps. The SEALs reportedly had a specially trained dog with them on the raid who could sniff for bombs and to see if rooms were booby trapped.
The Americans were also fired on by a man who was one of bin Laden's trusted couriers, officials said. The courier was killed by return fire from the SEALs, and they did not encounter any additional gunfire.
That early gunfire indicated to the SEALs that they might expect further resistance. And they did find a small arsenal of weapons in the home.

At least one AK-47 was found in bin Laden's room.

what happened to his AKS-74U?

It sounds like when bin laden got up he was armed with his pillow and blankie.
This may put the number of firearms held by the world's most wanted man below the Texas average homeowner.
That early gunfire indicated to the SEALs that they might expect further resistance. And they did find a small arsenal of weapons in the home.
“We recovered three AK-47s and two pistols from the compound. They weren’t storming a PTA meeting. They were storming into Osama Bin Laden’s fortress hideout,” said the same U.S. official. At least one AK-47 was found in bin Laden’s room.
There are a bunch of homes in America that have “small arsenals.”
Give them time. In order to placate the weepers that he was killed in ‘cold blood”, the White House will concoct a story that the house was armed with a small nuclear device.
3 AK’s and a couple of pistols does not qualify as an “arsenal” in my book.
Stick to the story. They found the SOB and blew his brains out. I’m just sorry that they didn’t stick what was left of his head on a pike.
There are a bunch of homes in America that have small arsenals.
And apparently there is now standing military protocol to kill those who merely have access to said arsenals.
Oh look! Another story!
At this point I don’t know why anyone would believe anything these people say.
We saw that weapon next to Bin Laden in almost every photo and video ever shown of him so why wouldn't the Seals assume that he was armed with it.
The time to start watering the tree of liberty was probably April 20th, 1993.
Most Americans, like the Germans of the 1930s, are so infected with the normalcy bias that they will never grasp how evil the government they let get “elected” has become.
It is like fingernails on the chalkboard every time I hear this idiotic misuse of this term by the media. The proper term would be "cache" but that doesn't scare the hoplophobes enough.
An arsenal is a manufacturing or refitting facility for firearms. It is NOT a weapons cache.
Plus, I seriously doubt bin Laden would lower himself to an AK-47. He probably would have the newer AKS-74U, which fires a different caliber round ("bullet" to the hoplophobic media).
You gotta keep up with the times. The PC police have added "a stock, store or collections of weapons" to the definition so as to cover their misuse of the word.
I am remembering Saddam's "palaces" and now this and wondering about the taste of those desert dwellers. They build art-deco crap and spend millions doing it. The inside of bin Laden's "mansion" doesn't look much different from the ground outside.
Have they also updated the definition of "misfire" (failed to discharge) to cover their abuse of that term (e.g. "The suspect was killed when the officer's weapon misfired")?
I get the same irritation when people call a stallion a stud. A stud is the physical facility where stallions are kept for breeding to mares. People bring their mares to the stud to be bred. Therefore, a stallion at times was known as a stud horse because he was kept there. That got shortened to stud and most people don't know the difference.
As long as the SEALs are covered (and protected from vindictive “human rights” lawyers and backstabbers in the government), it’s ok with me.
The administration, OTOH, will have to answer big time for these constant fabrications.
The idiots in the Whitehouse likely don't know the difference between an AK-47 and an AK-74. They probably think the difference is a typo.
The raid took place in the dark of night on a night when there was low moonlight. Therefore, one would assume that it was very dark inside the building.
The SEALS were in all likelihood using night vision goggles and suppressed weapons, therefore the bad guys were downed before they knew what was happening.
Someone somewhere else has posited that the SEALS were briefed to expect that OBL might have a suicide vest on his body. Therefore, they didn't wait for the blinding flash of the vest going off before dropping him. (This makes sense, doesn't it?)
There was no "firefight" but rather a quick assault wherein concussion grenades were used to "prepare" each room for entry before the SEALS went in. This accounts for the twittering guy reporting "explosions" -that and the destruction of the inoperative helo.
There is a huge amount of "shooting from the lip going on. Every politician and "expert" in the world wants to get his/her 15 minutes of fame over this event. The world needs to take a few breaths, not speculate wildly and wait for the true story to come out.
This is the best a terrorist mastermind can do?
I got more in my pantry by the catfood.
