"The terrorist leader was killed by American commandos who burst into his room and feared he was reaching for a nearby weapon, U.S. officials said."
... "The officials who gave the latest details said a U.S. commando grabbed a woman who charged toward the SEALs inside the room. They said the raiders were concerned that she might be wearing a suicide vest." ... Attorney General Eric Holder told Congress the operation was "entirely lawful and consistent with our values" and justified as "an action of national self-defense." Noting that bin Laden had admitted his involvement in the events of nearly a decade ago, he said, "It's lawful to target an enemy commander in the field."
Holder also said the team that carried out the raid had been trained to take bin Laden alive if he was willing to surrender. "It was a kill-or-capture mission," he said. "He made no attempt to surrender."

I do appreciate your post but never did I feel we need to justify our actions..to anyone. As when we were asked who gave us permission for the raid. No one.For one simple reason. We asked NO ONE for permission.
And..you are right. That is the perfect answer.
For the people who act surprised, before Obama even took office, he said if need be, he would go into Pakistan to get Osama bin Laden. Why are they surprised now?
The third guy on the recently published Reuters photos of the inside of the campound (photos leaked by a Pakistani official) is definitely the dead body of Khaled Bin Laden, Osamas son, that being the first visual and undeniable proof that Bin Laden was at that campound that night.

Makes sense. If the cops raid your home and you make a threatening move or they cannot see your hands, they probably will shoot you.
Can’t imagine UBL didn’t keep a pistol or rifle very close by.
... and it only took them about 12 attempts at previous statements to finally arrive at the perfect statement. Sorry, but I have zero tolerance for Eric Holder or his pronouncements. Just grumpy I guess.
“Just grumpy I guess.”
No, you are being prudent and very smart.
LLS
Another load of crap.
No, you are not grumpy at all. You are correct.
It was a kill mission period...not that there is anything wrong with that.
I don’t care if he was bending down to kiss his $ss goodbye, no justification necessary, you don’t send SEALS in to negotiate, they did the right thing...
Absolutely. And they probably went in with a “give me a reason attitude.” I certainly would have and I am a housewife in San Antonio....can you imagine what a Navy Seal felt like??
He was almost never photographed or videoed without either holding it, or having it conspicuously displayed. It's a "Krinkov" AKC-74 Assault Rifle, BTW.
Correction - If this is the SEALS account of what happened, it is credible.
If this is Holders account of what happened, it is pure crap.
WHo gives a rat’s behind. The man was a murdering coward. Justice was served.
LI-YA!!
Here’s a counter-point by well known Fox News commentator, Judge Napolitano (no relation to the Secretary ). For those who don’t know, Napolitano was co-host of “Brian and the Judge” on Fox News Talk from 2006 to 2010, with Brian Kilmeade (co-host of Fox and Friends and host of Kilmeade & Friends). Napolitano, who now hosts the show “Freedom Watch” on Fox Business, is a former prosecutor who is a solid conservative and strict Constitutionalist who believes in adherence to the rule of law. He is controversial in conservative circles because he does agree that the US Constitution should apply to captured enemy combatants.
The link contains a short summary of Napolitano’s views on the killing of Bin Laden and a video clip (taken from Napolitano’s appearance on Tom Sullivan’s show). It’s worth a listen.
Dear Obama Admistration,
For next time, practice these two steps:
1. "We will neither confirm or deny any details about the operation."
2. Then STFU.
Shepherd Smith talked about this this evening. This guy needs to be fired. He’s always looking for a conspiracy theory and questioning everything our military does. The guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about.
