How did Obama let this happen? I would have thought GM would get it.

The new Nissan taxis will be powered by the bloviating coming from Bloomberg’s office in City Hall. Sounds like Bloomie has invented the perpetual motion machine.

I hate to see a foreign company get $1b of our tax dollars, but I hate to think it would go to the UAW for political kickbacks also.

Ford would have been my first choice I guess, but it really would have been a slap to the administrations face if that happened.

Forget all of this, why the hell is NYC buying taxi cabs in the first place???

The City/taxpayers don’t buy the cabs. They *regulate* the industry, and can specify which vehicles are allowed to act as taxis.

I didn’t think they did the actual buying with their money, they just act as the purchasing agent then.

I don’t agree with that either. They should at least put a list out with choices, not a specific manufacturer.

Nissan does make a good number of cars in the USA, just not this one, apparently.

And it's not really accurate to call them a Japanese company; Renault owns a major share.

Nissan has a huge presence here in TN. I can see their North American headquarters from my office.

Just a guess but I'd say one of their diesel passenger vans would be the most logical choice. They're the taxi of choice in most countries ,, here's a loaded one ..
