Palin splits with neocon advisers
Politico ^ | 05/03/2011 | Ben Smith

Sarah Palin has parted ways with the neoconservative foreign policy advisers who had been writing speeches and advising her on policy since she joined the McCain campaign.

An aide to Palin, Tim Crawford, confirmed that Orion Strategies' Randy Scheunemann and Michael Goldfarb are no longer working for her PAC. They parted, both sides said on good terms.

"Randy flat out said, 'We can't give you the time,'" Crawford said.

(snip)

Crawford said they've been replaced by Peter Schweizer, a writer and fellow at the Hoover Institution who blogs regularly at Andrew Breitbart's Big Peace.

The personnel shift carries an ideological charge. Scheunemann, the former executive director of the Committee for the Liberation of Iraq, is a longtime neoconservative stalwart, as is Goldfarb, a former reporter and protege of Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol. They crafted for Palin a policy platform and voice reflecting an eagerness to use American force. The pair, who helped Palin with press and debate prep in 2008, were also something of Palin's last link to Washington's political establishment.

But Palin parted ways with that aggressive internationalism in a speech yesterday, condemning U.S. involvement in Libya and laying out a more cautious philosophy of the use of force. Schweizer has articulated a more skeptical view of the use of American force and promotion of democracy abroad.

"Egypt does a lot of things wrong, but they have also been pro-American on a lot of levels," he wrote of Obama's support for protesters in Egypt -- which was being roundly criticized by neoconservatives for being insufficiently vigorous. "When protests broke out in Iran earlier during his tenure in the White House, Obama was not willing to openly back them, at least until he came under considerable fire. But now he is supporting them in Egypt?"

I really don’t think a Republican candidate would need that much cash. I think the Silent Majority, the disillusioned far Left and middle America are about to speak and there is very little advertising can do to stop it. Let Obama spend his money. We don’t need it.

This is nothing more than a way of allowing Scheunemann to leave with some dignity. One can tell as much by the fact he was replaced by an ideological polar opposite. This wasn’t about Scheunemann not having the “time”. This is about Palin assuming a much more traditional conservative view on foreign policy as opposed to what she was saddled with during the McCain disaster.

I believe she’s always had a good relationship with Scheunemann but clearly his views are no longer compatible with hers. This is a very good move on her part. And I’m saying this as someone who didn’t agree with her Libya position.

How many paid advisers do you think Trump has, probably zero. Paid advisers speaks more to the fact that you need to have someone tell you what to say.

Only a fool wouldn't have any advisers, or someone who thought he already knew it all. Trump, you don't know it all.

If I had made either of your posts, or had calcowgirl or indy lindy done so, we would be mercilously flamed. So far, the Palinstinians haven’t spoken up. Palin is a charter member of the PUKEneo/RINO establishment. She is also for carbon credits and “registration” amnesty.

I know who the media enemies of true conservatism are...

Bill Kristol

Charles Krauthammer(who I believe voted for Obama, as he was absolutely giddy on election night)

Fred Barnes

John McCain

Richard Pearle (probably the worst)

By the way, do you know of any PUKEneos who served actively in the military? Their wives? Their sons? Their daughters?

Jess axin ;-)

If you do not have a person with a wide range of knowledge in the white house, and a functional ability to use that knowledge, then we need to elect a committee. Probably what we have with the dumbest kid in the room today.

Amen, Liz. We knew they were the ones spinning Palin’s foreign policies.

Good riddance to the rubbish.

Some of us are owed an apology. Sarah Palin has acknowledged they needed to go by getting rid of these nation building opportunists.

Rove and Krauthammer will not approve!

We are only supposed to focus on the “serious” candidates like Romney and Pawlenty.

Neither is Trump a credible presidential contender. As such he's free to speak his mind. I find it instructive that Trump must use four letter works to express himself. Don't need that in the man or woman holding the office of president.

High office seeking politicians have been using speech writers for at least a century. Do you really believe that Reagan was told what to say by those who worked for him? He was documenting his conservative beliefs in letters, diaries and op-eds long before he ran for office. He made a damn great president. If you're old enough to remember he gave this country back its self respect after the awful Johnson, Nixon and Kennedy years.

You sound like a typical effete libertarian elitist to me. Oh, and neither Ron Paul or his son will survive the primary sorting out—if they decide to make a run for it.

“the ability to raise that kind of cash”

Couldn’t we say that any candidate can raise that kind of cash if they can get enough of a following. If candidates other than Obama, Palin and Trump can’t raise the necessary cash, isn’t that just an excuse for not being a strong enough candidate?

Show me the written sourse or post a link to a video showing her saying that [advocating "boots on the ground"].

I think I read somewhere that she advocated carpet bombing boots (and other sundry footwear) on Tripoli. The Arabs seem to have some phobia about shoes, and they'd surely raise the white flag if they thought they were in danger of getting hit by some keds, or boots...

...Let me go see if I can find my source ... I'll be right back...

I Agree.

The US in terms of proven crude equivalent in oil, natgas, coal and oil shale sits atop the world hierarchy. The numbers I recently saw gave crude equivalent reserves at over 3 trillion barrels. For comparison the numbers given for Saudi Arabia were just over 500 billion barrels (which is iffy because it's tough to get good data out of SA). Russia was actually in second place. A lot of people claim the oil shale which is a huge part of the above number shouldn't be included as it's too costly to produce. However, Shell claims with their ICP technology they can produce a barrel from shale for around $30 (these numbers are now several years old).

Point being, we're energy dependent only because we have a domestic non-energy policy in place which is absolutely crippling.

SUPERB!

To hell with hyphenated conservatives and voodoo Republicans!

This is the most encouraging news in a long, long time. Conservatives have been led around the mulberry bush for 22 years with “neoconservative” posturing and fraud. This is a landmark for the 2012 election cycle.

“need to have someone else tell you what to say”

No individual can know everything about everything. Palin needs good advisors. A major criticism I have or the Obama administration that I forgot to mention in an earlier post is that he has a bunch of incompetents in his inner circle.

“IMHO, neocons are libs who like to start wars for monetary reasons and then send your kids to go fight.”

Pretty much. I have always thought of them as liberals with some math skills, but your summary is more correct.
