Anti-Pot Republican Lawmaker Charged with Pot Possession

It’s likely that Robert Watson, the minority leader of the Rhode Island House, is now regretting his incendiary comments during a speech to the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce last February. Watson caused a commotion when he made clear his feelings that Rhode Island lawmakers were wasting their time debating marijuana decriminalization. According to Watson, making pot decrim a priority would be a good idea “if you are a Guatemalan gay man who likes to gamble and smokes marijuana.”

Watson’s hypocrisy was revealed this week after he was stopped at a police checkpoint Friday and charged with – what else? – marijuana possession. The police report indicates that Watson smelled like alcohol and pot and “slurred his words.” He also had difficulty passing a sobriety test. Officers found a bag of what they suspect to be marijuana and a wooden pipe in Watson’s pocket.

In addition to pot possession, Watson faces charges of driving under the influence and possession of drug paraphernalia. Watson claims he was “safe and sober” behind the wheel and states that his Breathalyzer test “showed that I was well below the legal limit of .08.”

He’s a politician. He could comfortably embrace all three of those positions.

That is fundamentally untrue, & you know it. Both Rats & Pubs, Congressmen, Doctors, Lawyers, & millions of other Americans are disgusted with the failed War on Drugs. A recent Gallup poll found that 44 percent of Americans favor legalization for any purpose, from medical to recreational, up from 31 percent in 2000. Surely, nearly every other person you encounter is not a doper?

They realize that the WOD is a gross intrusion on Fourth Amendment rights, & do not believe the US gov’t has ANY Constitutional authority to prohibit ANY substance for personal consumption.

Is it OK with you that the Federal Gov’t can dictate what you may or may not consume, & can jail you for failure to obey? This question extends far beyond illicit drugs to food & medicinal drugs, as well as other consumables. Are you comfortable with the likes of Pelosi, Reid, Kerry, McCain, & Graham making these decisions for you & your children, both now & in the future?

This is so rich in irony.

OK, he might not be a hypocrite... in that case he’s schizophrenic.

“Actually, only dopers want drugs to be legalized, and they project on every one else.”

All Libertarians are dopers? LOL.
