There is now Islamic group in Pakistan which is remotely powerful enough to challenge the Pakistani military in armed strength or popularity. The military perpetuated this myth that the nukes would land in Taliban hand while feeding other terrorist groups.

Exactly right. The Pak military is how people get ahead in Pakistan. If you can read and follow orders, and you want a pretty comfy middle-class existence in Pakistan, the military is about the only option.
