Excellent insight, dearest sister in Christ! Of course, the Constitution forbids the establishment of a state religion. But these days, increasingly the judiciary seems to regard the Constitution as their personal property with which they can do anything they want.
So it's nice that SCOTUS has indicated atheism is a "religion." I think they got that just exactly right.
Atheists probably strenuously object to that characterization. Among other things, they believe that faith and reason are mutually exclusive. But note I said "they believe": They are men of faith, too....
