TRIPOLI, Libya — Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi survived a NATO missile strike Saturday that killed his youngest son and three grandchildren and wounded friends and relatives, Libya's spokesman said.

Gadhafi and his wife were in the Tripoli house of son Saif al-Arab Gadhafi, 29, when it was hit by at least one missile fired by a NATO warplane, according to Libyan spokesman Moussa Ibrahim.

Libyan officials took journalists to the one-story house in a wealthy residential neighborhood. Some areas of the roof were caved in, leaving strings of reinforcing steel hanging down among chunks of concrete.

This attempted assassination of foreign leaders is a bad business, that the US ought not be involved with.

Assassination is the strategy of the weak, and we have lot more to lose than our enemies by letting slip that particular dog of war.

Syria Libya and Iran were an “alliance” vs the rest of the Arab League throughout the 70’s and 80’s

Syria (Assad) got oil and money from Iran, Iran got a surrogate close to the Israeli border and a stake of support from Arab states, Libya Syria and Iran got to bedevil the pro-western sheikhs of the Arab league and influence in OPEC, Libya got some technical assistance from Iran during the war with Chad, Iran also got political and manpower assistance from Syria and Libya during the Iran-Iraq war. I'm sure there are dynamics, I am missing but in the 80&rsquo's, and beyond, they were an unholy threesome

The reports about Iran's involvement in PanAm 103 have ben very muted, no one wanted(s) to acknowledge it because then we would have to do something about the elephant in the room and no one wants to do anything about it

To disallow Iran's involvement and pin at all on Iran's 2 stooge allies- we'd have to accept that Iran never ordered a retaliation against the west (in a big or symbolic way) for the downing of its Airbus filled with holiday travelers (sound familiar).

For Iran to be so “silent” just doesn't seem rational in an irrational way, if you know what I mean - at least in my gut feeling I am suprised Iran and Syria don't seem to be hanging together more over this NATO assault on Libya, guess they have their own internal issues at this time

Wow, I sure do admire your passion. My post was 7 words long. Your reply was 571 words. Wow, just, wow.

Do not infer my attitudes from a 7 word post. Let me parse it out for you. Other people's INNOCENT children and grandchildren died in and over Lockerbie as a direct result of this madman's machinations. I do not shed a single tear for this maniac or any of his family. He sowed the wind, he reaps the whirlwind. That's all my post said, end of story.

As for your post, I actually agree with almost everything you said, except for your inferences about me. I didn't come down with the rain, I know this "war" doesn't have anything to do with Lockerbie.

is this a “Just War”?

No.

The rebels took up arms. They are combatants. We attacked Gadhafi not because he was shelling civilians but because we took sides in their civil war.

NATO wanted to prevent killing civilians. These are called collateral damage. Actually no difference. As for Ron Paul, the country is not ready for Paul’s non-intervention approach, even on this site.

“I don’t think his son or grandsons blew up a plane. Are we killing kids know? What gives? I am starting to think like Ron Paul.”

I hear ya. Ghaddafi is a POS dictator, but if he hits back and kill Americans in a terrorist attack, I dont think I could blame him for taking his hatred for us personally after this.
We were stupid to get into this war, and we will be stupid to allow Ghaddafi to stay in power.

Wait ... what’s evil here?

We got into this war on the pretext of protecting innocent civilian lives. we claim we are not having a policy to take out ghaddafi regime. It was and is a foolish pretext. You engage in war, and this stuff happens.

“War is just if it preserves the peace.”
This misadventure does none of that. Bad strategy based on faint hope of half-hearted effort.

The honest approach would have been: “Is knocking off the Ghaddafi regime by any means our US policy?” If yes, go to war; if no, stand down. Instead we have this half-war stupidity that only gets people killed while the inevitable crushing of the rebellion continues. Thus, we are now hypocrite and liars, creating death for a losing side.

Obama’ s folly, but all we get is “Democrats wars good; Republican war bad” from the media.

of course the kids did no evil, but if I were wanted by the FBI and the CIA and the IRS, I wouldn't hide anywhere near where my grandchildren were....but these idiots use their "loved ones" to shield themselves from authority...great bunch of "humans"....hope those 27 virgins are working out
