South side of Chicago - late sixties - Ashland Avenue became the dividing line between black and white neighborhoods. All of the white business owners on the east side of the street were told to close shop by the blacks. One by one they were burned out or murdered until the only white businesses were on the west side of Ashland.
I will never forget the day the little old Italian man who owned the shoe repair store was shot dead. He was the last white store owner on that side of the street. I still cry when I think of him, he was such a sweet, gentle man.
Thats shocking Americas untold history. You have to stand up to all thugs early, I say, or they take advantage.
