As dry conditions and gusty winds whip up new wildfires in parched Texas, Gov. Rick Perry Thursday blasted the Obama Administration for failing to issue a disaster declaration for the state, widening the growing rift between the White House and the states rights advocate governor, 1200 WOAI news reports.
"You see hundreds of thousands of acres of Texas burning and you know that there will soon be emergency declarations, and we did that now a couple of weeks ago, but still no response from this administration," Perry told 1200 WOAI's Michael Board after addressing the Texas Emergency Management Conference in San Antonio.
"There is a point in time where you say, hey, what's going on here," Perry said. "You have to ask why are you taking care of Alabama and other states? I know our letter didn't get lost in the mail."

Succesion sounds better and better as the days pass.
Seems to be that fed help should be minimal. (For the good of Texas)
here we go, this is obama’s Katrina, Obama is racist.
Some folks may disagree, but this Texan does not want federal help.
We are Texas. we have had wildfires before , we will have them again and we can handle wildfires on our own.

Unlike 0dumbo’s stimulus money federal disaster money has no strings. Texas, like all states, send money to the Fed.
There is no reason except politics that 0dumbo is not helping.
Can anyone imagine W not helping a state just because they didn’t vote for him?
I hate that POS 0dumbo
Once you latch on to that nipple its hard to let go.
Yup. There are several million BLACK votes in Alabama and damn few in West Texas. Probably the real reason he in Tuscaloosa right now.
I’m In Michigan and I helped to elect the guy who promised as little federal money to the district as possible.
So far we have spent billions with billions more to be spent.Like most states we are looking at shortfalls even without this disaster.
Federal Disaster money comes from all states’ contributions. There are no strings and there shouldn’tbe.
Money we sent to the Fed has been used in other states who have had disasters. Why shouldn’t we receive money now when we need it.
THIS is not sucking at the gov’t teat.
Plus there are advantages beyond receiving money to having an area declared a disaster area
I agreed with Perry to not take string laden stimulus money.
This is something entirely different.
I don't see the tie in to Independence here. It seems like poor little Texas can't take care of itself and needs Obama to come help.
Why not just each area that was affected?
As you can see FEMA, has declared several Texas Fire Management Assistance Declarations.
A decade ago, a California airship company almost built a prototype of a firefighting airship, but unfortunately went bankrupt in the crash of 2000. But their idea was sound, and hopefully will be built by a different airship company.
Though it sounds improbable on the surface, and airship has some huge advantages over the other firefighting aircraft, fixed wing and helicopter.
The biggest of these is that it can carry a huge payload of water. And because of its hover ability, it does not have to drop it all at once, though it can. Instead, it can “rain” heavy droplets of water over an area, either burning, or in the path of the fire, which is a highly effective means of suppressing a fire.
Likewise, it could descend a fire hose for accurate spray of either water or very high expansion firefighting foam on hotspots.
And instead of having to refill it with hoses, an airship could just set down on a lake, pond, water tank, or other body of water, with its tank inlets open, and rapidly refill its tank.
As the load is lessened, compressors put the extra helium back into storage tanks, and VTOL impulse fans, like on the Goodyear blimp, give it an extra push to take off. Cruising speed about 40mph.
A simple, on board infrared camera can help the airship quickly locate the location of a fire at a distance, by looking for its heat column, and to avoid running into the heat column, though this would likely not be a problem except when a fire turns so intense it becomes a firestorm.
But even then it could use its descending hose and any crosswinds, to offset its water some distance onto the firestorm.
His crass and ugly rudeness to the Brits cost Michelle an opportunity to parade at the royal wedding.
His ugly dismissal of a state in need as a petty political vendetta may cost him more than that.
Looking at the site I see some interesting things for my state of Michigan.
Only about 2 dozen federal disaster declarations since the 1950s. Most recent was for Katrina. LOL. We had wildfires up north last spring and there was no federal declaration.
“Some folks may disagree, but this Texan does not want federal help.”
Agree, and support your thought, but to me it appears a great opportunity to focus more exposure upon Obama’s racism, and exploit the fact.
Really the only rain we can hope for is via tropical systems, like last year. In fact, it hasn't rained in centex since TD Hermine last *September*.
Rain isn’t the government’s responsibility.
