Yes, but IMHO, it was far more taboo in 1961 for a white American woman to be married not only to a black man, but a black African. In 1961, the Obamas would have gone to jail in 17 states. Interestingly. They spent some time in Washington State, but there were no anti-miscegenation laws there. Interestingly there were none in Kansas, either, which leads one to speculate even more about Frank Marshall Davis' time there.
If my recall is correct Obama’s mother and Obama’s father could not obtain license to mary in Hawaii because Obama had a Known wife in Kenya and Hawaii did not sanction bigamy.
