Well, this beats all, doesn't it? Oprah Winfrey trumps the justice system.
A potential juror on the former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich corruption trial got out of jury duty. Her reason? She has tickets to the taping of the final "Oprah Winfrey Show," reports Chicago radio station WBEZ.

Just as well. I’m not sure we want an Oprah fan on the jury anyway.
And I think the judge likely did right, too, since there was already publicity about this, which could have led to an appeal after the verdict. A ridiculous appeal, but we know what they are worth these days.

About five years ago, I was a passenger on a hotel shuttle from one of the airports in Chicago to downtown. Lucky me, the other 15 or so were women visiting specifically to see an Oprah show. That drive is long on an average day but this was painful. I could not believe their level of cult-like worship. A simple conversation about the weather would issue “Well you know what Oprah says about the summer...” The driver then pointed out a building along Lake Shore drive where Oprah lived (or lives), people gasped. Gasped! It was infuriating.
