“This in and of itself was cause for removal. His Eminence Cardinal George has heen cowardly IMHO.”
“Pfleger has been pastor of the mostly African American parish of Saint Sabina,”...think this could have anything to do with it?
Leaving anybody in a parish for 30 years is a recipe for disaster, because people like that are always going to develop a cult of personality.
My diocese has several priests who have been in their parishes for almost that long. We got a new bishop 10 years ago, and he started to move them, but their groupies got after him and he backed off. However, just before he formally retired at the age of 75, the bishop removed one of the worst of these men (a raving liberal pro-gay, pro-women’s ordination whack job) and sent him off to a decidedly unimportant parish.
The bishop should have canned the man altogether, since it’s not fair to inflict him on another parish, but at least he got him out of the high-profile parish where he had held sway for 29 years. Still, I don’t know what it is with these bishops, why they are so cowardly.
Pfleger needs to take his flock and find some cheap land in Guyana.
May they fall fast and hard!
