SPRINGFIELD – MassMutual confirmed Wednesday night it will lay off 75 employees at its Springfield operation, primarily within the information technology department, as part of a restructuring, a company official said.

There are still jobs in Springfield besides the NBA HOF or the various Mafia-owned strip joints? Who knew.

Springfield never recovered from the late 80’s/early 90’s recession.

Being in IT sucks. I am doing what I can to get out of tech and into the business/production side. IT managers only know how to "reorganize". It's how they get their bonuses.

Unfortunately, companies usually have to bring in a new person later on to fix the mess the previous guy made. And then the cycle repeats.

Ouch. I suppose liquor stores and strip joints qualify as employers of choice in Springfield. A shame; they gave it the old college try in the late ‘80s as far as improvement. I lived in the Chestnut-Mattoon area and I liked it for what it was. It was nice to walk down to the quadrangle.

Yep. They’ve tried to fix it up, but, ehh...

Like we’ve discussed, it’s been in the dumps for 20+ years.
