Many Wal-Mart customers use EBT cards. Some of Wal-Mart’s wailing on this point is to advocate for a raise in the amount of food stamp money that goes out.

I drove by a gas station/convenience store today with a sign reading "We Accept EBT Cards" near the sidewalk. American flag background on the sign, too.

I was on my way to work, and had to pay for my own fillup later that day ($67, and I used one of those regular debit cards where money doesn't magically appear in the account every month).

The EBT cards only work for food, not gasoline ... :-)
