If you count the long term unemployed along with the currently reported, 8.8 %, you're looking at nearly 20 %. That's what it was in the late 1930s. How you count makes a big difference.

Alterman speaks for the base who feel used and abused, e.g. Latinos on immigration reform, pacifists in the War on Terror, Iraq, Afghanistan and now Libya, Obamacare without single payer, civil libertarians with the Patriot Act & Gitmo, etc. Despite all the ill conceived big gov't crap that Obama has done, nothing is ever enough for the utopians.
