Really? Kool for you (bad pun intended)!

I've read there's a big difference between late 30’s (like you) and mid 40’s (like SP) in regards to developmental problems and having kids.

OTOH, I had a neighbor back when I was growing up that was a heavy drug user (coke, grass, glue sniffing, who knows what else) and she had a daughter at 17 that is so severely retarded (wheelchair-bound, cannot speak, etc), we used to say the skank mother should have been arrested for child abuse and/or attempted murder.

Good luck to the Sarkozys.

“Maternal age influences the chances of conceiving a baby with Down syndrome. At maternal age 20 to 24, the probability is one in 1562; at age 35 to 39 the probability is one in 214, and above age 45 the probability is one in 19.”

I would never argue that using mind-altering drugs wouldn’t be a sure, terrible hazard to any fetus. While smoking isn’t the smartest thing in the world for a variety of reasons, it doesn’t compare to using rec drugs, especially in pregnant women. I belive they said it could reduce birth weight, which becomes significant with premmies; multiples are notoriously early. I didn’t smoke during pregnancy, btw.
