Police Nab Two Burglary Suspects After Chase

ATLANTA - Two suspects were taken into custody Friday after leading police on a chase up Georgia 400.

Atlanta police said they were searching for a Honda Accord they believed was linked to a couple of burglaries in the Brookhaven neighborhood earlier in the day. Patrol units were able to catch up to that car as it was getting on Georgia 400. The suspects' vehicle was weaving in and out of traffic, trying to avoid police vehicles from Atlanta and Sandy Spring as well as H.E.R.O. units. They ended up crashing into a grey Nissan sedan just after they got onto Interstate 285 heading eastbound, just before Peachtree Dunwoody Road. Despite the damage, everyone in the Nissan was left with only minor injuries.

One suspect was taken into custody at the scene of the accident, but the other fled on foot. Police brought in a K9 unit to search the woods beside the interstate. They were eventually able to catch up with the second suspect and took him into custody as well. Both were taken to the detention center at Grady Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.

FOX 5 News was there as police combed through the Honda, pulling out two flat screen televisions and other items which they believe were taken during the burglaries. They also pulled out a shotgun, but didn't know the origins of the weapon. Regardless, police said they are always happy when they can take a weapon off the street and out the hands of potential "bad guys."

Police will be questioning the suspects further after they are cleared from the hospital. The identities of the two suspects have not yet been released.

Traffic was backed up for several hours on Interstate 285 as investigators went over the accident scene and gathered evidence.

I hope this comment doesn't mean they're going to destroy the gun, irrespective of whether it was stolen from a good guy or a bad guy.

These days, what’s left OUT of a news item tells you more than what’s left IN.
