I agree, when he was 3 minutes old, he looked over at the clerk typing up his birth certificate and said "I'll kindly be referred to as African, thank you very much".
I'm American, so what "race" am I?

The discussion is about the father's racial classification. The document does not list a race for the baby, only for the parents. Also, even Hawaiian long forms from the time period did not assign a race to the baby (at least the examples I've seen).
