Yup. Any 6 to 17 year old who seems to know more about the ship's operation than the grown-ups running things is inane.

Lost In Space had 13 year old Will Robinson, who solved problems about the ship that stumped Major West, John Robinson, and Dr. Smith (who, after all, knew enough about the ship to sabotage it, and he knew how to program the robot).

Star Trek TNG had the insufferable Wesley Crusher, who seemed to have THE answer for the inner workings of a ship that is likely as complicated as one thousand Boeing 747s. If only Picard invoked the Prime Directive when young Wesley was sentenced to death for not keeping off the grass... sigh.

Well, Lucas sees the 13 year old who knows more than three grownup specialists with doctorates, the 16 year old who knows more than a dedicated crew in the hundreds of intergalactic warp speed star ship technology, and raises them one seven year old who looks like he came in second place for the role of the little kid in "Eight is Enough."

Being able to retrofit a pile of junk into a pod racer that could beat the best of the nearest half dozen quadrants exceeds my ability to suspend disbelief.

When I was 9 years old, I was able to accept Mirror Master (in Flash Comics) teleporting out of jail by modifying an electric razor and a shoe shine kit. I don't think I could buy the Anakin Skywalker story as presented in Phantom Menace.
