I don’t agree. John McCain had an established American lineage that included admirals in the military and was born in the Panama canal zone. The founding fathers were not trying to exclude candidates from military families that just happened to be born on US bases. I have no problem with that resolution.

On the other hand the founders were trying to prevent unknowns like obama with no real American lineage and born on foreign soil from seizing power.

I understand what you are saying but the problem with McCain is not his heritage.

I agree. The NYT was running articles about McCain to avoid vetting Obama. McCaskill used that as a smokescreen (her S 2678 failed) to put a clause in SR 511, “Whereas previous presidential candidates were born outside of the United States of America and were UNDERSTOOD to be eligible to be President; and..” as a way to sneak Obama past Constitutional requirements.

I never thought McCain was ineligible, but repubs were so determined to get him past any questions. they signed SR 511, a non-binding, unconstitutional attempt to bypass the natural-born citizen requirement, thus showing their contempt for the Constitution. Even Tom Coburn (R-OK) co-sponsored the resolution.
