NY Times/CBS News poll? Anytime two ultra liberal news agencies collaborate on anything their poll is suspect. The other one that comes up from time to time ABC/Washington Post poll ... another (so called reliabe) poll with a large dose of liberal bias thrown in for good measure.

You’re right. What a sad shame.
He might not make it to 2012....and I think we’ll be in very bad trouble by Nov., 2012. Right now we’re living on borrowed time.

In a nutshell, this is why we are doomed:

29 percent said cutting the deficit would create more jobs
29 percent said deficit-cutting would cost jobs
27 percent said it would have no effect on the employment outlook

We may be doomed, but this isn’t the stat that bears it out, as 56% say cutting the deficit would either create or have no effect on jobs. Only 29% say it’d cost jobs. That’s not a particularly pessimistic viewpoint, IMO.

[The poll found considerable support for Obama’s proposal to raise taxes on the wealthy — 72 percent of respondents approved of that idea as a way to address the deficit.]

Sickening. This country is doomed. Obama is doing this country a great disservice claiming the debt/deficit problem can be fixed by raising taxes on the wealthy.

Gold at $1500+ and silver closing in on $50—the rest of the world isn’t impressed with the US economy either.

Wow. He looks like Flip Wilson playing Geraldine in that photo.

Too bad, because I liked Flip Wilson. :)

“We are truly experiencing the last gasps of the great Ponzi Scheme known as the Welfare state.”

Agreed, but like a drowning person who is panicking, as it goes down it will reach out to drag others down with it.

If you truly want to repair the US economy political correctness has to go, and fundamental changes in approach have to be made.

Immigration policy should be revised to favor immigration of specifically those people and groups who bring new talent into the US economy - a resurgence of pro-US ‘brain drain’. We should also ensure that immigrants have proof of a five year plan for self-support. Exceptions can and should be made for political refugees and those seeking asylum.

Changes in the tax code to reward and solicit success, not punish it, have to be enacted.

The welfare system needs to be altered such that it does not promote lifetime dependency, except for those who are disabled. Require welfare recipients to undergo recurrent periodic needs testing, and make the penalties for welfare fraud much more stringent.

Set aside a portion of the welfare budget to establish work-study programs that teach working age welfare recipients on-the-job skills that will allow them to be successful in life.

Require under age mothers who join the welfare ranks to finish high school, or to study and pass a GED, as a requirement for continued support.

Encourage privatization and free-market approaches to address the biggest ticket government spending areas (e.g. medical care, education, welfare, etc.).

Promote and reward, with tax-breaks and other incentives, innovation.

Implement a long-range energy policy that includes sensible development and use of our own resources.

You could probably take any ten people from this site and come up with a viable plan to fix things, but instead we have Ivy-educationed incompetents pushing the nation over a cliff.

“They played that card under their first leader, Jefferson, and have never stopped.”

When did Jefferson or any of his contemporaries in the Democratic-Republican party engage in class warfare? Provide the primary historical sources backing up your claim.

"They played that card under their first leader, Jefferson, and have never stopped."

Jefferon = Class warfare? I don't think so.

First, I recognize that Democrats today like to describe themselves as the "Party of Jefferson". But, in reality, nothing could be further from the truth. I can't think of a single plank in the contemporary Democrat party platform that Jefferson would support. Not one. A more intelligent and accurate case could be made that Marx & Lenin are the founders of the modern American Democrat party. That's how far removed the Democrats are today from ANY of the principles of our Founding Fathers, including anti-federalists like Jefferson.

If Jefferson were alive today there would be NO DOUBT about what party he'd align himself with - the TEA PARTY.

I know it can get worse, but how much worse before widespread unrest I’m not sure. I’m impressed that with so many people losing jobs & homes there hasn’t been any yet, but I can only attribute that to the fact that everyone thinks this is temporary.

“People are irritated at the "rich" because they're not hiring, not creating jobs, not moving capital through the economy.” What part of our Constitution or any civil law mandates any of those things?

“They're just not holding up their end.” End of what, and who mandated that they perform to your desires?

“Millions of Americans are sick of looking for work.” Chickens come home to roost.

“They do not want to be on welfare. They sure as hell do not want to be homeless.” And just how well did they prepare themselves for today’s conditions? “These are not the jobs we want. They're not the jobs we need.” Most folks end up with pretty much the job that they deserve based upon what they offer the marketplace.

“Out here Republicans, Independents and Democrats all agree raising the debt ceiling should NOT happen.” At least your neighbors got that one right.

“‘Obama's out here in CA, land of 12.3% unemployment and $5 gas.“ Californians are now reaping the logical and inevitable consequences of what they planted.

“Of course, the "rich" still have money to throw at him because they're not using it to create jobs.” Start at the top and loop through it until you understand what has happened. Or you can rely on hope, again and again and again………………

“It’s” not temporary despite what “they” might think. I understand your point but let me explain the non-temporary condition.

The Intermodal sea going container system got started about 1970. Nixon got China opened up by 1975 and that’s when their “great leap forward” got started and they offered us access to their cheap labor. That’s when labor intensive operations started leaving the country. By the early 1990’s machine operations were leaving because of lower rent, energy costs, lower taxes et al. This slide was interrupted by the Clinton, Bush, Barney, and Dodd-the-Dudd housing bubble which has now been exposed/revealed as a Ponzi scheme that created an artificially low unemployment rate. That bubble started kicking in about 1997 and everything that happened between then and 2007 was pure bubble. I had trouble hiring people for about a decade because every young hotshot high school dropout thot he had it made because he could get a good paying job-for-life framing houses. If you remember how things were before 1997 you will know how things are going to be for quite some time.

Here’s the rest: I manufacture stuff and I’m good at it. My business has not stopped growing. I’m also a really competitive varmit and do not intend to be beaten by a Chinaman, Indian, American or Ubangi. My equipment is the most modern that my suppliers can sell me and I have tools that are 15 years old that are still smarter than the stuff most manufacturers are buying right now. I learn that from the lack of success my own suppliers have trying to sell the machines I use to others slowly starving in similar businesses. (my guys love to use me in their ads)

Productivity is KING. Modernization is mandatory. While the US has about 80 million people cracking butt every day we have somewhere around 50 million more who don’t have enough of a skill set to stay in the labor/talent force. The career forklift driver is a dinosaur. The modern warehouse doesn’t even have forklifts let alone drivers. Check out Volkswagon’s newest factory!

Anyone unemployed with 20 years or more left to work had best get motivated, get creative, get back in school, find a field of interest, learn how to use a library, and generally get crackin’. Anyone with much less than 20 useful years had best lower their sights take the first available slot and adjust to their new reality.

My expectation is this: We are heading toward a split society. The “middle class” is gone. (I hate discussions of class when income is what is meant but I’ll use it to make my point). The productive, well-off folks will amount to about 15% of us and the getting-by sliders will be the rest. It doesn’t have to go like this but a half century of Great Society, unionization, pandering politicians, etc. virtually guarantees that it will take at least two generations to break the curve IF we can start turning it around by getting rid of Obamuzzie “soonest”.

Well stated.

“The republic can survive a Barack Obama It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their president.” — Author Unknown”

And we know where most of the “multitude of fools” were educated...public schools.
