Reposting my response on this issue the other day.

“Actually NO, she is not right. In your quote of the law it keeps talking about “the CERTIFICATE”. In other words that a certified copy of the “ORIGINAL” “BIRTH CERTIFICATE” is legally the same as the original. DUH. They aren’t going to allow you to have “the original birth certificate”. They give you a copy, and this law is saying that a copy is just as good. A COLB is NOT a “COPY” of the original.
Now Hawaii has just changed laws & procedures about birth certificates to be able to TRY to get around having to provide a copy of “the original”. It won’t work.”

Good point. It's easy to get bamboozled when dealing with words.
