Major League Baseball takes financial control of the Dodgers from owner Frank McCourt
Los Angeles Times ^ | April 20 2011 | Bill Shaikin

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig says he will appoint a trustee to oversee the team's business affairs while investigating the 'operations and finances of the Dodgers and related entities.'

Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig stripped Dodgers owner Frank McCourt of financial control of the club Wednesday, saying he would appoint a trustee to oversee the team's business affairs while investigating the "operations and finances of the Dodgers and related entities."

Selig intervened after McCourt required a $30-million loan from Fox last week in order to meet the team's first payroll of the season.

Selig said he would identify the trustee "in the next several days."

McCourt has been under financial pressure since at least 2009, when he was rebuffed in at least three attempts to gain additional financing, according to court documents filed in his divorce case.

Season ticket sales have fallen from 27,000 in 2007 to just more than 17,000 this season, according to court documents and baseball sources.

My impression was that McCourt was a wannabe multi-millionaire...and someone finally figured things out. A couple of players probably got a check late...word got out....and finally baseball dug into the finances.

It’s on L.A. sports radio this afternoon. Nice break from the normal Kobe Bryant ass-kissing and judging from my 5 times going to Dodgers Stadium, the operations is run like a high school committee. An anonymous Dodger source said that indeed, checks were not delivered on time but it’s sports radio.

Besides, no one would want to hear my non-pc reason why not to go back. It’s a LA RAZA festival. There should be a gringos only’ exit and entrance because it’s overwhelmingly mexican.

Is this the guy who had a high profile divorce not long ago...I remember reading an article about a baseball team-owning couple a few years back at the dentists office.

Jamie won the first round, much to delusional Frank’s surprise. He should have checked into California marriage and divorce law before moving out here... just sayin’.

50/50, it’s the law.

Quite a comedown from the days of Branch Rickey and the O’Malleys. The Dodgers need new ownership capable of getting a new Dodgers stadium built fast.

This franchise is in the toilet.

Its fan base is nothing more than the Mexican Ku Klux Klan. Note it was Mexicans that beat the hell out of the White Giants fan

If MLB does not get rid of its political correctness and address the issue.....they will lose white fans like they have basically lost black fans

The L.A. Dodger hat is a typical hat worn by Sureno Gang Members from Southern California (you might know them as MS-13). It can also be a sign of Crip affiliation.

Trade places with the Padres and change their name to The Vatos.

The 42-year-old Santa Cruz man remained in critical condition at a Los Angeles hospital Friday after two men wearing Dodgers attire beat and kicked him in the stadium parking lot Thursday night, police said.

Los Angeles police Detective P.J. Morris said there is a gang that favors Dodgers caps and that the caps have become a gang symbol for them.

“We’ve seen a lot of gang members wearing it, but I don’t know if that’s related,” he said.

i wear it occasionally and i’ve had threats

and mostly warnings from locals not to wear it.

Merely a reflection of the demographics of the area

The McCourt divorce is very messy. I hope this ends up in new ownership. The Dodgers are rivals to my team, but they are one of the storied franchises in baseball.
