And now America's toughest Sheriff has come up with a new initiative to give the public a voice in law enforcement - an online Mugshot of the Day competition.
Arizona-based Joe Arpaio, known for his uncompromising stance on crime, is letting the public browse through the mugshots of those arrested each day and then vote for their favourite.

A mugshot is a public record. I don’t see any problem with it.

The Albuquerque Journal publishes mugshots for drunk driving and felony propery crimes, but only after a conviction.

I admit it. I have a problem with rating them, and making a leader-board. The number two “ranked” mugshot is obviously so highly ranked because the man’s jaw has been surgically removed. This isn’t cute, it isn’t funny, but it’s extremely low class.
One of those is a no-brainer. Watching televised executions might have a salutory effect on the lives of young people.
It’s not the mugshots that are going to get him in trouble, it’s “rating” the mugshots. Hence the grotesque #2. The #1 guy looks like he got into a fight with a can of paint and lost.

Well said Melas. That is what bothers me about this. There is no need to give the progressives ammo to come at you. And come at him they will with this one. I guarantee this will be on every liberal website and all the network and cable liberal weenie shows today. To reiterate, this makes him look bad.
I can’t say I can even fathom what he was thinking. I can see making the mugshots available to the public. That makes perfect sense. Allowing individuals to vote on which mugshot they like best? That’s just wrong on so many levels.
I wonder if the guy in that mugshot was arrested for “mouthing off” to the authorities?
