Retard has come to mean stupid. Retard means slow, noun or verb. Retardare is Latin for “to slow.” Rétard in French means slow.
It’s considered offensive, but it’s really just a word. Yes, in the sense of a sufferer of Down’s Syndrome, it’s appropriate. Is it insensitive? Depends on the person.

I, too, loathe political correctness. But in Trig’s case, I’m gonna skip the “retarded” word and use Down Syndrome. His mom doesn’t like the word and since she’s done so much for me and my country, I’m gonna honor her wishes.
Off topic, I felt a little guilty calling the scumbag author of this piece “gay” so I tried to research it. I can’t find where it explicitly says he’s gay but his Wonkette pages seem devoted to gay issues. So I’m assuming I’m right. If you can believe it, “Hugs” is an advertiser on his page!
