I admit that point. My point is that once the party mechanism had spit up McInsane, it did the party faithful no good to punish the party ... and the country ... by not voting for the lesser of the two evils. That's what the two-party system always seems to boil down to.
You could move to France, where there is a political party that exactly agrees with me on every issue. The 1200 of us like-minded souls might even get a seat in parliament! Then our deputy could take part in some short-lived coalition or other.
What is killing our minds in the two-party US is that our politicians are all things to all people. That's impossible and that's a lie. When they have convinced enough people that they agree with them and get elected, they are free to do whatever the hell they want (or their biggest contributors want.) It's why Republicans " Campaign conservative. Legislate Liberal." It's a big two-party tent; too big. The Democrats' tent is much much bigger than ours. After all, what do "The Young," Academics, Illegal Aliens, Jews, Welfare Blacks, Latinos, Gays and Lesbians, Union Members, Middle Class Blacks, Soccer Moms, Single Moms, Movie Stars, and Gang-Bangers have in common? They are all Democrats! Some 60-40, some 70-30, some 95-5, some 100%! It adds up to a democrat majority ... so the only way Republicans think they can win is by getting Democrats to leave their big tent and slide on over to ours. "We'll give you just as much, and we are much nicer "better" people! I mean just look at us!"
Sometimes, things get so damn bad, and the Democrat in power is such an obvious anus, that the people will suddenly get together and vote in the Republicans across the board. (E.G., Giuliani in NYC. After he cleaned up the town to the point that a normal American might consider walking down a a dark street, they couldn't wait to get rid of the "tough guy fascist pig dictator" who had literally saved their lives ... to replace him with a goofy wimp left-wing RINO who has slowly undone his good work!)
Question. Can a Republican sweep happen in 2012? Yup. But then where's the Program? The Plan? The Leader? OBTW, if "our people" in the House don' t start moving their ass and other livestock, there ain't gonna be no Republican Sweep in 2012.
