4/19/11 N. VA Community College Townhall Remember when that bridge in minnesota collapsed, with all those people on it? There was a big cry, how could this happen in America? The national society of engineers, they looked around and they give us a 'D' when it comes to infrastructure. Our roads and bridges and sewer system are all deteriorating. We don' t have a serious high- speed rail infrastructure in this country. Our broadband lines are slower than places like south korea. So what -- we cut transportation by another third, and will happen to america? We' re going to the bridges collapsing everywhere?
Everything in America is second rate as far as 0bama is concerned.
Hussein and the ‘Rats made the conscious and intentional decision to NOT rebuild infrastructure with the $800 “stimulus†money. It was intended to be wasted on his constituents and it was.
Wasn’t the trillion dollar stimulus package marketed as being for the repair of our “infastructure”? Shovel ready jobs, blah, blah, blah..............
Obama has spent nearly $100 billion on infrastructure improvements over the last two years, yet he now claims that everything is falling apart. So what happened to the $100 billion?
I work for a Civil Engineering firm.
The projects we worked on for clients (cities, townships, villages, counties) which took money as part of the “American Reinvestment and Recovery Act”, consisted 99% of Bike Paths, resurfacing roads and installing/replacing barrier free ramps at crosswalks.
With all that money not one project did I see that addressed infrastructure; just sprinkles of feel good stuff.
One of our municiple clients determined it was cheaper to not take the “free” federal money and pay for a road project themselves, thus freeing them of the required pay scale wages the feds require.
They patched all the potholes with $1,000 bills.
I thought that’s what the stimulus was about — infrastructure. What a BS Artist he is.
Meanwhile we have bridges ready to fall down here in MN that environutter democrats block from being rebuilt .

And yet 2/3-3/4 of porculous went to bail out states and unions...NOT the infrastructure he weeps over. All he needs is a country of 50%+1 idiots to believe him....

The bridge was designed and built in an era when engineers thought that redundant systems were both unnecessary and inefficient. Gusset plates installed at the time of the bridge’s building were too thin, and without any redundancy to account for a major failure on a single point, it was a tragedy waiting to happen from day 1. It had nothing to do with any lack of maintenance, and in fact collapsed because of scheduled maintenance to the deck that inadvertently destabilized it to the point of collapse.
It’s dishonest in the extreme to use this tragedy as an argument that we neglected our infrastructure, and ghoulish to use the dead for a false political point. Obama should be ashamed of himself.”
