Actually, what proof do we have that he was born in August, 1961?
Based upon Ann’s travel to Seattle, I would say it makes sense that either he was born earlier or he was adopted, since no one seems to have seen her pregnant, or she went to Seattle much earlier and spawned him there in early summer 1961.
When I was in school there really were not that many smart black/mulatto kids with white mothers. I might add single mothers were not as common in those days either I think I would remember an odd kid like that in my class. It is remarkable how few people seem to recall Barry having been in their class, especially during his college years.
In 1969 inter-racial marriage was illegal in TX. I was a groomsman where a black friend married an Iowa girl in San Antonio and it was quite the big deal. It was also quite the big surprise when they went to Iowa where she had failed to mention Al was not the same shade of ivory everybody else was in that small town.
