I remember while in my teens in NC back in 1970, a guy shot and killed two Highway Patrol officers during a traffic stop. He were eventually caught but mysteriously vanished without a trace. The Blue Wall of Silence held fast and the whole things eventually faded from view. Back then NO ONE eff'd with the NCHP and got away with it.

Of course, back then, NC also had a surefire way to catch escaped convicts. They were designated outlaws by law enforcement, which meant any farmer or anyone else for that matter could shoot them on sight. People turned themselves in very quickly after being so designated. Political correctness eventually got that tactic banned.

That’s not something I applaud. Police should enforce the law not supersede it.
Last year was a bad time for thee NCHP. They were involved in many scandals which culminating in the replacement of the highest ranking officer and a major shake up. Some of them were accused of having sex in exchange for letting offenders go without charging them, K-9 abuse and drunk driving.
