I’m coming down on the Wizard’s side. Hippies never “ruined” anyone’s life, except sometimes their own. I was 15, 16, 17, etc. during that time and I’m grateful for nearly every experience I had back then. For one thing, being part of that era helped teach me the value of rebellion—and this is something that few young people ever learn these days.
There has to be a reason why the book that has captivated generations has not translated into a movie that will draw in young people in large numbers like, say "Twilight."
