Tell everyone you know! This government with its "Cash-For-Clunkers" program has deliberately ruined automobile transportation for the poor. Lower middle class and poor individuals nationwide simply can not find reasonably-priced cars to buy in which to transport themselves to perform necessary functions of life, ie: work, school, groceries, healthcare visits, etc. because the cars they can afford are gone.
The price of gasoline has skyrocketed and all smaller cars with reasonable gasoline mileage have gone up so high in price the poor can NOT afford to buy them. Some folks are already beginning to ride bicycles to work (really). What many of the poor do not realize is that someone they voted for created all of this mess.
It literally takes months to find a decent used car that doesn't have major mechanical problems. This government has ruined just about everything they have touched and now they have removed even common transportation from the grasp of the very people who voted them into office. The only beneficiaries of all of this will be union auto labor. This has to be one of the greatest, historical political backstabs of all history on a constituency that supported a political candidate. Anyone running against this government needs to constantly bring the transportation issue up. It would be a winning issue. Let's watch and see it all play out.
Unintended consequences? Yeah right! The left is always ahead of us in deception. Now those poor people need more government help, which leads to more government bondage.
Cloward-Piven: make the populace dependent on government for their very lives.
FU Soros....and, your little dog, Little Stevie Dunham, too....
Entitlements, the gift that keeps on taking (from us, the taxpayers)!
Some Medicaid patients may be getting a 'free ride'
Snips: The whistleblower, who asked to remain anonymous due to current government employment, says local Medicaid patients request taxis under the guise of visiting a doctor's office, then use the cab for unrelated personal errands instead. The government-sponsored medical insurance organization routinely provides transportation to recipients who are not able to get to themselves to a medical facility.
One particular recipient who requested and received free taxi service to several medical appointments each week habitually left the office without seeing her doctor and used the cab to go shopping, WTOP's source says.
And they will, most of them, vote for the Great Uniter, the pathological liar, again, given the opportunity.
This discussion can only go nowhere.
Americans are all entitled to vote. Even the mentally and psychologically deficient.
I rode a bicycle to work for years. The only problem being crazy drivers.
This should be an individual choice. The more folks get out of their vehicles and ride bikes, the safer and healthier we will all be. I saved lots of money not owning a vehicle and could rent one when I needed to haul stuff.
I remember a lot of FReepers making the prediction this would happen. It would put a major hurt on the economy used car business. It was akin to solving hunger by burning food.
Sad, but true (turns off light switch and goes to bed).

We little people don't have to be riding around. We can take the bus. (except the millions who live in fly-over country where there is little to no public transportation, as far as city buses go.)
Well, I am 65 years old and the bicycle that worked just fine in 8th grade just isn't that practical any more.
Now I can afford a car, but the retired people lower on the income scale are going to really suffer.
Did you ride it 24 miles to and from work - even in harsh winter country? That would've made you even healthier.
Especially if you also lived, not only in a northern winter state, but in 4-wheel drive country. That would've really built up those leg muscles.
My son is an auto mechanic, and I cannot emphasize how depressed he was during cash for clunkers. We live in an area with a lot of poor people, and very high unemployment. He was the “go to” guy to try and find cheap cars for people with little cash, and there was nothing out there.
People would call him crying, begging him to just find something to get them to work, and he couldn’t find anything for them. Obama and his miserable cronies destroyed the cheap car market. It was heartbreaking to see the lots of perfectly good cars that could have gone to people sitting there to be destroyed. What a waste.
That was when a lot of people here in FL realized Obama was a cold b******, with no real love for the poor.
Well they have taken a chunk of cars that were cheap and drivable and serviceable off the road.
However they are still out there. Craigslist personal sales you can find good deals. You can always find something.
We’re returning to the fuedal system; the nobility will ride on horseback, while us peasants trudge along through the manure. Another indication of our standard of living falling to that of Red Chinese peasants.
Totally true. Furthermore, spare parts for repairs are now much more scarce. In my area, those spare parts were often FREE. Now they are nowhere.
Another side effect: people with limited physical mobility are less likely to keep on working if they don’t have their own cars. Some can’t bike or even stand out in the weather waiting for a bus, but they would work if they had their cars. Now they don’t. Now they give up and take unemployment.
Good for you!
I am always amused by the angry responses from the bicycle-haters, even when you make it crystal clear you’re promoting this as an individual choice.
If Americans rode bicycles more, here would be (some of) the results.
Less obesity.
Better health in general.
Less pollution.
Reduced traffic congestion and wear and tear on the highway system.
Reduced carbon emissions. YMMV may vary on how important this one is.
Lessened reliance on imported oil and reduced income and power for those who control its supply. Most of whom are our enemies.
Considerably increased traffic injuries and fatalities. The per mile injury and fatality rate is MUCH higher for bicycles than cars, for fairly obvious reasons. In particular, mixing bicycles and cars on the same street is an excellent recipe for serious accidents.
