The CEO of IBM offered the Obama administration a free software program that would have cut Medicare and Medicaid fraud by almost a trillion dollars, but he was turned down – twice.
"We could have improved the quality and reduced the cost of the healthcare system by $900 billion...I said we would do it for free to prove that it works. They turned us down, "IBM chairman and CEO Samuel Palmisano said during a Sept. 14, 2010 taping of the Wall Street Journal’s Viewpoints program.
FOX News confirmed that a second meeting between Palmisano and Obama administration officials yielded the same result: "No thanks!" – even though the proffered "fix" would have eliminated 90 percent of the nation’s health care deficit – and cost taxpayers nothing it didn’t perform as guaranteed.
Yet Medicare/Medicaid fraud is still rampant. According to the Manhattan Institute’s Steven Malanga,"abuses of Medicaid (alone) eat up at least 10 percent of the program’s total cost nationwide -- a waste of $30 billion a year. Unscrupulous doctors billing for over 24 hours per day of procedures, phony companies invoicing for phantom services, pharmacists filling prescriptions for dead patients, home health-care companies demanding payment for treating clients actually in the hospital -- on and on the rip-offs go."
Now that Republicans are trying to repeal Obamacare and drastically cut federal spending at the same time, perhaps Palmisano can be persuaded to offer his services again.

I’m not sure there’s nearly a trillion dollars of fraud — if there is, I’m worse at this medical finance stuff than I thought.
However, any good move that discovers and limits the fraud would take away a huge political hammer that the Dem demagogues need. What if the government is proven to make a medical system, eaten through with rot? Or, what if we need a jeweler’s hammer instead of a sledge hammer?
It would delay his plan to destroy the economy and bring the nation down.

I think the offer was probably to provide state of the art software and hardware which would give the government better visibility into their ‘business’.
As someone who has competed in software deals in both the public and private sectors, government contracts have a better than average chance of ending up with failure. It’s called government malfeasance ...

To save a trillion dollars would also involve getting rid of 20,000+ mostly affirmative action minority+women Federal drones (Obama voters) who shovel our tax monies out the door caring nothing about fraud and abuse.
Realize that Medicare and Medicaid are huge jobs programs for people who are easily replaceable by these IBM computers and who are marginally employable in the much dreaded private sector
IOW that is the reason the offer was turned down as it was not going to provide POWER to the radicals. It was a legitimate attempt to cut down the costs of government, and as we all know that is not part of the radical Lefts agenda.
maybe this has nothing to do with the subject, and I love IBM, but they were just fired by the state of Indiana for mishandling their contract to run Indiana’s welfare system....just saying
