A top adviser for President Obama dismisses him as a "sideshow." Former Bush adviser Karl Rove calls him a "joke candidate."
But that hasn't stopped Donald Trump, who has captured national attention with his outspoken skepticism of Obama's citizenship, from surging in early presidential polls. He leads all potential GOP presidential candidates by nine points in a Public Policy Polling survey released Friday. He trailed only Mitt Romney in a NBC/Wall Street Journal poll released last week.
The real estate mogul and star of NBC's "The Apprentice" says he's encouraged by the polls, but won't make an announcement about his plans for a presidential bid until June. Yet he'll be in Florida this weekend to speak at a Tea Party Tax Day rally in his first political trip since he began making waves with talks of a possible presidential bid.
Despite Trump's early strong showing, many still aren't convinced of his electability and analysts say he will have to go beyond the so-called "birther" cause and define himself for Republican primary voters on social, fiscal and foreign policy issues.
Cary Covington, a political science professor at the University of Iowa, attributes Trump's high poll numbers more to a weak Republican field than to Trump's strengths as a potential candidate.

If Hillary guy Berg birthed the birthers, does that make the constitutional fraud of Soetoro/Obama OK and not addressable? The logic of that is difficult to follow.
Well is there really any difference in the Clinton 'socialist' and the BamBamKennedy type socialists. Trump backed Hillry and it was Hillry that birthed the so called 'birthers'.... But after South Carolina and old Bill getting a 'racist' accusation the Clintons had to lay low on any questioning of the eligibility of young BamBamKennedy. See the 'social justice' wing of the liberals old Teddy Kennedy drew up young BamBam and anointed him as the second coming of JFK, hence the 'hot air' and destiny just deflated out of the Hillry 'I can do it better' campaign. Course the 'stupid' Republicans settled for the biggest across the aisle supporter in Congress old Lord McCain. It is almost hysterical to hear the 'donald' itch about the RED Chinese, given it was their funding that gave the Clintons a second term... HOT AIR!!!!
It just goes to show that Americans want to know Obama’s secret background.
We are tired of being lied to by this alledged president.
Show us the Damned Birth Certificate , how you got your Soccial security card, Your school records an make fools of all of us you Kenyan turkey.
It’s just proof that there is a vacuum in leadership for conservatives.
Conservatives are so damned starved for true leadership that they’ll rally behind anyone who has the balls to speak the truth.
It’s pathetic we’ve reached this point, but we have.
I made so much money in the stock market during 1992-2000, I was able to retire early. Jobs were going begging for skilled people like me during that time. Clinton was 1000 times better than Obama on economic policies. Of course Clinton had to contend with GOP congress who deserves most of the economic success. But Clinton at least went along with GOP Vs the Kenyan Socialist who uses Alinsky tactics every day.
I don’t know if Hillary is same as Bill, but the present occupier of WH is 1000 times worse.
So, in about 4 week time, Trump passes the entire field of politicians, mostly former Governors?
FOUR WEEKS?......Must have something going for him.
Defies nothing. Its a clear indicator that Early Presidential Pollsters (author's caps) either really like Trump, or like zer0bama and see helping him by paving the way for Trump to launch an indy run.
Bet a Debate like that would get a lot of eyeballs to watch it....
I think Obama would look like the phony he is...
That would help other candidates.
At this point the exact opposite seems to be the case for Trump.
Money is always the primary consideration, but only slightly more than ideology, on average.
Is SOROS involved?
Remember the article back in November in the Huffington Post — Soros had said he had given up on Obama and was looking elsewhere. A lot of the speculation was Trump. (related story from source I can link to)

The Co-Opt the Tea Party Movement being put into practice by Trump?
Sounds quite plausible to me!
Trent Lott [R] on Tea Party candidates: As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them

The money quote from a Washington Post piece on the Tea Party and Washingtons GOP establishment:
Former Senate majority leader Trent Lott (R-Miss.), now a D.C. lobbyist, warned that a robust bloc of rabble-rousers spells further Senate dysfunction. We dont need a lot of Jim DeMint disciples, Lott said in an interview. As soon as they get here, we need to co-opt them. But Lott said hes not expecting a tea-party sweep. I still have faith in the visceral judgment of the American people, he said.

Mark Levin’s explanation of why Donald Trump does not represent the conservative or Tea Party movements. He wasn’t there when we needed him, and he helped those who were against us.

Look how Chump operates. Caught red-handed now with his vicious attacks on George Bush, who most conservatives had issues with, he now says but for Bush there would have likely been no Obama. That may well be true. I have been a harsh critic of Bush’s spending, including in my book. But Chump was calling Bush EVIL and demanded his IMPEACHMENT because of the Iraq war and in the middle of that war. He said Bush lied to get us into Iraq. His comments were vile and outrageous, not unlike the America-hating leftists who sought to undermine are armed forces there. Now he wants us to believe that his criticism of Bush was because Bush’s poor record set the stage for Obama? Chump attacked Bush over Iraq because if you were a big-mouth, attention-seeking liberal, it was the thing to do. He had no altruistic or principled conservative motive for doing so at the time and expressed none.
As recently as last year, while conservatives and Tea Party activists were organizing and rallying against Obama, Pelosi, Reid and their radical agenda, Chump was helping to fund some our opponents. He contributed to left-wing, Tea Party-hating menaces like Chuck Schumer, Anthony Weiner, and Harry Reid. What about his contributions to Charlie Crist, while Crist was running against Marco Rubio? Did he donate to any of the Tea Party candidates? Did he contribute to the Tea Party movement in any way, with time or money, before today? Why not?
Chump also praised Nancy Pelosi. He thought she was great. I played the audio. I guess he was just mistaken, again. He supported universal health care, but not any more, of course. He supported abortion and gay marriage, but that was then, this is now. He supported John Kerry for president in 2004, but that’s because Bush was so evil. He leaned on government officials to use eminent domain against a little old lady whose home happened to be in the way of a parking lot he wanted to build for one of his casinos in Atlantic City, but he has always been for private property rights.
So now Chump rails against China and demands Obama’s birth certificate and we are supposed to swoon over the man. But when asked about the Ryan budget, he turns stupid again — he says Ryan should not take the lead on this, we need a bipartisan consensus to move forward? And with whom do we build this bipartisan consensus? Reid? Obama? Is Chump really this dumb, or is he, once again, trying to figure out which way the wind is blowing?
Chump is a phony and dissembling. He called a hastily organized press event this morning because I, and others, are on to him.
Today he is speaking at a local Tea Party rally. And why? Because now he wants our support, not because he supports us or our principles, or ever did. Chump is about Chump. And he thinks we’re too stupid to notice. Are we?

TRENDING: Trump lashes out at George W. Bush and Obama
By: CNN Political Producer Shannon Travis
http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2011/04/16/trump-lashes-out-at-george-w-bush-and-obama/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+rss%2Fcnn_politicalticker+%28Blog%3A+Political+Ticker%29
Palm Beach, Florida (CNN) Donald Trump has more harsh criticism for one of the most recognizable men in the world: George W. Bush.
In a display of bipartisan bashing, Trump lashed out at the nation’s 43rd president as he criticized the 44th.
“George Bush gave us Barack Obama. If it weren’t for George Bush, we wouldn’t have Barack Obama,” Trump said on Friday. “So I’m not thrilled with George Bush.”
The billionaire real estate mogul made the comments at his famed Palm Beach estate Mar-a-Lago that sits on 20 acres and boasts 126 rooms. The star of NBC’s “The Apprentice” spoke to reporters in a hastily arranged news conference moments before a posh, poolside party at the estate and hours before he was to speak at a Tea Party rally.
Trump was pressed to explain his comments.
“Because he[Bush] didn’t have a great presidency, especially at the end. And because of his actions, and because of his aura, it was very tough for a Republican to win,” Trump said. “And in all fairness to John McCain and to Sarah Palin, I think it would have been very, very tough for anybody for Abraham Lincoln to win after having followed George Bush.”
Trump has previously let out harsh criticism of the 43rd president.
In a March 2007 interview with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer, Trump said, “Well, I think Bush is probably the worst president in the history of the United States.” He cited the war in Iraq, calling it a “total disaster” and added later: “Look, everything in Washington has been a lie. Weapons of mass destruction - it was a total lie. It was a way of attacking Iraq.”
Trump now sees Obama as deserving that notorious distinction, calling him “the worst president in the history of the United States.” Among other items, Trump reasoned that the president has not done well handling foreign affairs, such as the conflict in Libya, and that “Obamacare” is bad for the country.
Headlining a Tea Party rally in Boca Raton on Saturday, Trump will make his first appearance at a campaign-like political rally this year. The rally will mirror others across the country over the weekend as conservative activists protest government spending days before Monday’s deadline to file taxes.
Media and public interest in Trump has recently increased as he’s questioned President Obama’s birthplace. And his popularity with Tea Party activists has also increased. The reality television star boasted that interest in Saturday’s rally ballooned after it was announced that he would appear.
“It was supposed to be 300 people,” he said. “When they heard I was speaking, I heard it’s going to be anywhere from five-to-ten thousand people.”
And yet Trump has publicly supported one issue that Tea Party activists despise: the bank bailout. When asked if he can win Tea Party support given his support for this issue, Trump demurred from a direct response.
“Well I actually think the tea party is more of a party of common sense.”
LOGIC will never fit into any discussion concerning liberals/socialist/progressives... They are gutter minds and they will fall one upon another to 'survive'. IF Hillry knows that BamBamKennedy is NOT eligible to serve as president what does it make of her gravitas to serve him as secretary of state... and now her old man Bill is impotent so out comes the 'donald' to do her bidding.
The 'donald' wants to itch about the Chinese, snicker, when it was their dollars that help fund the Clintons reelection in 1996... sorry if the 'donald's' wealth is imperil it is HIS own doing.
I have NO clue what the 'social justice' wing of the socialists global party BamBamKennedy is hiding, but the real question is WHAT did Hillry KNOW and WHEN did she KNOW it. I had to raise my young children under the modern Ahab/Jezebel and I find them no more above the 'fold' than the present administration.
Bill was never an ideologue. His politics were guided solely by what was best for him.
Hillary, on the other hand, is an ideologue -- every bit as committed to a Socialist agenda and Alinsky-like tactics as Obama. She'll do a better job of disguising it, though.
Sour Grapes Levin is mad because Trump will not appear on his show. Same thing with Savage. Those 2 feel left out and are mad.
Fascinating. I would love for you to explain this "blatantly obvious" dynamic to the less informed.
Incidentally, in just the last few days, here are some of the headlines written about Trump...

I can't wait to hear how headlines like these "help" Donald Trump.
Trump, in the wake of the 2008 election: "Barack Obama has a chance to be a great President. One of the very greatest."
“Sarah Palin backs Trump...” ~ Bridge_toofar
That’s no more true than trying to say “Rush Limbaugh backs Trump”, when all he said was this (which is true):
“Donald Trump is providing A BLUEPRINT here: The way to beat Barack Obama in 2012 is to just go at him.” -Rush Limbaugh - Thursday, April 7, 2011
<>
Ill tell you this. Whoever in this field takes it to Obama the straightest and the hardest and the most direct, is whos gonna win. Theyre gonna have to take it to Obama. This isnt a pussy-foot around type of election. This is not, Oh, weve got to worry about what theyre gonna say about us, weve got to worry about PR, about charges of racism. Somebodys got to be willing to take it to Obama. Its going to be about him and four more years of this stuff and well see if theres anybody in this field willing to do that. ~ Rush Limbaugh - March 25th, 2011
If Trump is rejected by GOP, he has every right to run as Independent. He does not need RNC money and has received not a penny from them. He does not OWE anything to ANYBODY.
But pay attention to “if he is rejected by GOP”. Which means his preference is to run on republican ticket.
Having fought against the Clintons as much as anyone, I am still puzzled by the failure of those who bill themselves as conservative to attack the obvious constitutional fraudulence of the One while the Donald will. How many copies of the Constitution has Heritage handed out while ignoring the One’s destruction of the constitutional rule of law by his eligibilitiy fraud?
