Debt-fix 'wise men' suckered by Bam
NY Post ^ | April 14, 2011 | Charles Gasparino

One way to know that President Oba ma's much-hyped "fiscal austerity" speech bombed is that even members of his own deficit-reduction commission apparently felt betrayed.

Sure, Erskine Bowles, the commission's Democratic chair, and Alan Simpson, the Republican, made some nice public statement about Obama's deficit-reduction plan after they met with him yesterday -- one day after the president unveiled his scheme to miraculously cut $4 trillion without reining in the looming catastrophes of Medicare and other entitlements. But people I spoke to in corporate America got a more unvarnished reaction in private from the debt-committee chieftains.

"What these guys can't understand is how Obama can ask them to come up with something, and then he doesn't listen to what they proposed," a Wall Street executive who knows both men well told me a few hours after the president's address on Wednesday.

More: "Erskine and Alan have been working both sides of the aisle trying to get people interested -- and then the guy who appointed them basically ignores what they said."

Say what you want about Bowles/Simpson's solutions -- living in high-tax New York, I was offended when Simpson said I needed to "sacrifice" more with higher taxes to fix the nation's fiscal mess. But the commission clearly saw the problem right: The huge explosion in spending on such entitlements as Medicare is as much a threat to our economy as our reliance on Mideast oil; we need to find a way to pay for those programs or cut them down to size.

It is the nature of today’s politicians to try and leave nothing for the next administration to spend.

Bowles/Simpson;

Now isn’t that just the perfect profile of courage of two brave souls/sarc. Make their “obligatory” public statements so the masses can be fooled again, then say just the opposite to corporate execs.

To the writer of the story, corporate execs could care less because corporations do not pay taxes, period. Their cutomers do and the corporations are just merely the tax collector.

The public figures from all .walks who refuse to tell the truth about Hussein’s disastrous actions are putting AMERICA in danger.

The few who are telling the truth, like Rush and Sarah, are villified.

The United States is financially insolvent. We cannot pay our bills. Our credit cards are at limits in the trillions of dollars and we keep asking for new credit cards and higher credit card limits.

History will prove our present leadership were reckless and irresponsible and caused the downfall of this once great nation.

They are not going to do it.

They wouldn’t say Crap if their mouth’s were full of it.

There are fewer than 10 actual Patriots in the whole Congress. The rest are there protecting their chance’s of getting re-elected instead of doing their job.

“It is the nature of today’s politicians to try and leave nothing for the next generation to spend.”

It is the nature of Obama to try and leave nothing for the next generation, their children and grandchildren to spend. By the time their great-grandchildren take the reins of power, there’s at least a 50% chance we’ll still be recovering from the fiscal damage created by the worst president in history.

True and I think the GOP is now in full Cahoots with them. The budget deals are a sham. The GOP will go kicking and whining for raising taxes and cutting SS. Also leaving Obamacare with a couple minor tweaks for effect. They Lie!

"What these guys can't understand is how Obama can ask them to come up with something, and then he doesn't listen to what they proposed,"...

But it gave zero a year or so of wild spending before he had to say anything about the problem.
