I agree entirely. This hurts the GOP but that hasn’t stopped our stupidity before. See O’Donnell, Angle, Birthers, etc

A golden opportunity to knock this guy out of office in 2012 and take more seats in Congress, but we’ll choke it away with stupidity like this. Guaranteed.

I suppose for anybody who puts political party above the US Constitution, you may right.

But those people called "birthers" they are democrats, republicans, independents, majority of Tea Party... they're not looking at this as a political issue.

This is a constitutional issue.

Hurts the GOP how? Obama is most vulnerable in his personal narrative. We know very little about him except what he wrote in his two autobiograhies. Asking that he meet Constitutional standards to prove his eligibility is not extreme. Poll after poll show that Obama has a credibility problem about his birth certificate. McCain failed to use it as well as his associations with people like Rev Wright, Farahkahn, Ayers, etc. Can anyone imagine if the shoe were on the other foot?

In 2004 political legends in their own minds like Rove did not want to go after Kerry's personal narrative as a war hero for fear that more questions would be raised about Bush's service in the ANG. It took the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth to stop Kerry like a deer in the headlights despite criticism from the likes of McCain and Rove.

The GOP has hurt itself. The Tea Party and people like Angle, O'Donnell, Rand Paul, Mike Lee, etc. are trying to save its sorry ass.
