Sixteen municipal police officers from San Fernando, Tamps., have been arrested in connection with the investigation into the mass grave found there last week, Mexican authorities announced Wednesday.

The officers allegedly provided protection to the Zetas drug cartel in San Fernando — located about 80 miles south of Brownsville — and are accused of covering up the massacre, according to a news release from Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office — known as the PGR.

Mexican authorities say they continue to work to identify 126 bodies that have been found since last week when authorities began finding the bodies. The most recent find was of 10 bodies and was confirmed today by Tamaulipas authorities.

The 16 officers’ names, according to the PGR:

Guadalupe Hernández Ibarra Remigio Camarillo Míreles Oscar Jaramillo Sosa Jesús Ramos Pérez José Luis Aguilar Vélez Martín García Badillo Eleodoro Robles Sánchez Elpidio Reyes Sáenz Santos Maldonado Reyes Lázaro Flores Peña Maria Guadalupe Galván Hernández Mario Alberto Romero Hernández Gilberto Rivera Hernández Julio Guadalupe Jaramillo Vela José Manuel Ávila Lugo Rogelio De La Portilla Heredia

The PGR is offering a reward for information leading to the capture of these additional suspects in the case:

Those wanted include Salvador Alfonso Martinez Escobedo, Omar Martinez Estrada, Roman Ricardo Palomo and Sarahi Fabiola Diaz.

No more trips to Monterrey, although I have’t heard of them stopping buses to Monterrey.

They have stopped buses, taken people off, and forced them to work for the cartels. Buses are NOT safe. Nothing is safe in Mexistan.

I notice, by their names, that all of the officers are Hispanic. What..... they don’t believe in a diverse police force down there?

That might be their whole problem. No strength through diversity.

"Sixteen municipal police officers from San Fernando, Tamps., have been arrested in connection with the investigation into the mass grave found there last week, Mexican authorities announced Wednesday."

This news release is significant in the fact that the Federales are going up front and identifying corrupt law enforcement officers. One can only hope that this brief glimpse into transparency continues.
