Rising gas prices pushes wholesale costs higher
Associated Press ^ | 4/14/11 | Christopher S. Rugaber

Washington - A spike in the cost of gasoline pushed wholesale prices higher in March, a trend that could limit consumer spending in the coming months. Still, most economists don't expect that will lead to widespread inflation because businesses are wary of raising prices when most people aren't getting significant pay increases. (Snip) Diane Swonk, chief economist at Mesirow Financial, said the economy is seeing "a blip" in inflation because of the rise in gas prices, as well as higher foods costs. But "it is just very hard for the broader economy to hold price increases for very long when

If we can’t defeat Baraq based on $5 gas, $1.5 trillion annual deficits, 10% unemployment, and surging consumer prices, we deserve him.

” Diane Swonk, chief economist at Mesirow Financial, said the economy is seeing “a blip” in inflation because of the rise in gas prices, as well as higher foods costs. But “it is just very hard for the broader economy to hold price increases for very long when that blip is causing consumers to curtail spending elsewhere,” she said. “

I suppose it’s never occurred to Ms Swonk (presumably the victim of an Ivy League ‘education’) that what really happens when a business can’t sell its product at a price which equals ‘costs plus profit’, it goes out of business....

WHO IS CAUSING THOSE GAS PRICES TO SPIKE?

WHO IS CAUSING THE DOLLAR TO DEVALUE DRASTICALLY?

WHO HAS OVERSEEN THE DESTRUCTION OF AMERICA'S ECONOMY AND REPUTATION?

WHO IS IT THAT PLEDGES TO RAISE TASES ON WORKING PEOPLE SO THAT HE CAN REDISTRIBUTE THAT WEALTH WHERE HIS IDEOLOGY DEMANDS?

barack hussein obama... Mmmmmmmmmmm... Mmmmmmmmmmmm... Mmmmmmmmmm!

The only thing that gives the American dollar value is the aggregate value of America itself. The dollar is backed by nothing other than the wealth represented by every American doing as much as he or she can to breathe value into our country, our society and our culture.

The number of people working productively to "breathe value" into the dollar is shrinking steadily. The number of people doing nothing to "pull the cart" (as Senator Phil Graham used to say) is expanding steadily.

Inflation is simply a measure of the progress of this dynamic.

Hey Unc, you forgot the rest. The employees of that business are out of jobs which paid for THEIR food, rent, utilities and the car payment. The businesses they no longer patronize in turn lay off their employees etc etc and on and on.
As the economy continues to sink, politicians make impassioned speeches that the RICH (THEM) are the cause of everyone’s troubles due to their greed and unwillingness to cede all their assets to the public good.
Then gas prices drop because no one has any money and there is no longer a place to spend what money people have.
The next day, our concerned politician rises to comfort the people with the news that GAS prices are at last on the way down. Whee.

” Hey Unc, you forgot the rest. “

Nope - didn’t forget it.. ;)

Just figured that FReepers, unlike economists and politicians, would be capable of following the thought to its end without my having to tax my meager typing skills to spell it out for ‘em....

The “Great Society” has done a fine job of making blacks dependent on the government. I wonder what percentage of black people are employed today vs. 1964?

Hi, Unc,
You’re right...FR types can follow the inevitable results. But I’ve found that there are actually Economists and/or politicians who really and truly read what is posted by those of us who do think. My intent was to educate THEM, they need it. What was is Paul Harvey called it? “THE REST OF THE STORY”
By the way, we are FR are judged by our beliefs, NOT by out typing skills. Dan’t werry aboot it.

God forbid we were to drill here and cut our reliance upon foreign oil. That woudl screw up all of Obama’s plans. We woudl have lower gas prices, heating prices, lower prices on consumer goods.

Muslim countries wouldn’t have the strangle hold over us that the7y are getting. Man it would really mess up plans that the WON has for us.
