Court Overturns Ford Corruption Conviction
The Daily News (Memphis) ^ | 4/14/11 | Bill Dries

Former state Sen. John Ford’s federal TennCare fraud and corruption convictions were tossed Thursday morning by the Sixth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

The court specifically found that Ford’s failure to disclose that he was working as a consultant for a TennCare contractor while he was a state senator voting on policies governing TennCare wasn’t a matter for the federal courts. It was instead a matter for state government, the court ruled.

A recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the use of the “honest services” federal statute also figured prominently in a ruling that could mean Ford will be released from prison sometime in 2012 or 2013 instead of 2025.

“The (state) Senate and (state) election registry likely could have exercised authority in this situation,” the ruling by the three-judge panel concluded. “They could have reprimanded Ford or exacted some equitable remedy, but no federal entity had similar authority in this situation.”

Former State Senator John Ford is uncle of wannabe-senator Harold Ford, Jr. He’s still serving Federal time for his TN Waltz conviction.

I thought there were 3 branches to keep the other 2 in line. Why is it they never can take up an issue since it doesn’t seem to fall in their jurisdiction?

Does this make any sense at all? We have no standing on who is in office - yet we pay their bills. Courts can’t rule on illegal activities of our congress critters since it is a congress decision. All congress does is verbally reprimand and it’s back to work as usual.

This country .......

And he’s still a convicted thief. He was caught up in the FBI’s Tennessee Waltz sting. He was convicted in 2008 and was sentenced to 5 1/2 years of Federal time.

I’m pretty sure the Ford family still owns that Memphis Funeral Parlor so all the dead people can reelect Fords to public office.

IF it was a Republican Ford or a Republican birth certificate THEN they would find jurisdiction and standing .
