It’s very simple. Having advanced degrees from expensive and socially tony schools is not the same as being well educated, and neither is the same as being smart. Just because Governor Palin worked her way through several colleges to her bachelor’s degree, then went out to start a family, work in her husband’s business, and then go into politics, doesn’t mean she’s stupider than President Obama (Punahou/Oxy/Columbia/Harvard Law). I think the opposite should be manifest by now.

What tells me that we were once a Great Society is that an actor such as Redford, whose talent was so limited, was able to make it big in entertainment.

I see no evidence that Palin is any more limited than the other public figures. I personally think she’s exceptional but others can legitimately differ on that point. However, there’s nothing to support the conclusion that she’s stupider than the rest.
