was that the Scorpion, or the Shark they did that to? The time I was on Shark, we were always told our original keel and hull pieces went to make the GW, maybe the sealore was wrong! lol

Those were the days when the Soviet Union had already beaten the US to space with the Sputnik, and the Cold War seemed very hot.
Once the US developed the Polaris missile, there was a great sense of urgency to get it to sea as soon as possible. The keel for Scorpion had already been laid, and was used for the Washington. I’m sure that the FBM program raided many other boats under construction to get the first five boomers to sea. I was also on the Roosevelt, which ended up with many parts originally meant for Scamp.

Yes, Scorpion became George Washington.
The third Seawolf-class SSN (SSN-23, USS Jimmy Carter) was also stretched so she could take over the special missions role (undersea cable tapping, etc) from the USS Parche when the Parche was decommissioned.
EB has also proposed a stretched-version of the VA design to replace the remaining Ohio-class SSBNs when they retire.
