When it comes to a possible run for the presidency by Donald Trump, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor is apparently not among those in the real-estate tycoon's camp, citing Trump's push to make sure President Obama is constitutionally eligible for the job.
During an interview on CNN's "American Morning" today, Cantor was asked, "Would you support a Donald Trump candidacy, especially with all this birther talk?"
The Republican from Virginia said, "No, I don't think he is really serious when we launch a see a campaign launched on the birther issue."
CNN host Kiran Chetry then asked, "But don't you get nervous? You want to defeat the president in 2012. And you want a Republican to take over the White House. Is Donald Trump your best hope right now?
"No, I don't think so," Cantor responded.
Trump has recently skyrocketed to the top of several polls regarding 2012 presidential challengers to Obama.

Tough Cantor. If you can’t explain why then sit down and shut up.
A geek, slippery hack: you summed it up perfectly. Months ago, during the Ground Zero Mosque (which is completely unresolved), the idiot Scarborough (go home, Joe, we don’t want you in NYC!) asked Cantor his opinion. Basically, like the great Chris Christie, he said it was an overblown contraversy - let’s not get excited about it. There and then, I knew he was a loser.
Whatever The Donald does - and I’m not sure of what he’s about - he was against the Ground Zero Mosque from Day 1. Like my idol, Sarah Palin.
And the moon is made of green cheese.
Eric Cantor doesn’t care about the Constitution.
Flush Cantor !!!!
WOW! The Reps are crapping down their leg(s) over Trump.
Guess the Constitution is just to much trouble to abide by.
This is a great political move from the right. To dismiss this issue fires up the base and now, thanks to Mr. Trump, independents. Trump is the lone man and doing a great job.
Both branches of the BIG GOVERNMENT party are circling the wagons to protect their corrupt system.
Cantor is a schmuck, nice budget deal loser
Go get em Trump
In the past, I’ve dumped on Trump for making BDS statements.
But . . . . if the establishment Republicans are going to start attacking Trump, I may have to change my mind.
The establishment Republicans have reached rock bottom in the well of irrelevancy . . . . . . . . and they’ve started to dig!!!
I’m proud to call myself a Tea Party Reagan Republican and will do whatever I can in 2012 to defeat Obama, the Democrats and the establishment Republicans (RINOS)!!!
The Rinos line up and come out for war against anyone dissing Obama. They are all John McBackstabber now.
Hey Eric, shove it up your RINO ass!
You’re missing the obvious genius. No one is going to vote for Trump, but we can use him to take on Obozo. Let him go and run with it. Geeze, get a grip!
Trump is the only pushing to get to the truth. Consequently, he’s the only one I can respect. The rest of the GOP dish rags have handed a free pass to zero on this very important question
You are wrong, and I will vote for who I want. I don’t need your approval
When so many folks on our side want the birthers to sit down and shut up, it makes me think that there is something very sinister going on ‘neath the radar. Why would so many of ours sip the koolaid unless there is some hardball blackmailing going on? Nobody, and I mean nobody, judges,
representatives or senators, has the balls to stand up and say that something’s rotten in Denmark and let’s get to the bottom of it. Trump’s the only one, but he’s not an elected official. Something stinks to high heaven. sd
