Trump off to a promising start (Bill Bennett)
CNN ^ | 4/13/2011 | William Bennett

Posted on 04/13/2011 6:48:05 AM PDT by SonOfDarkSkies

For the past three months, Donald Trump has been making a lot of news about his possible run for the presidency. It started in February when he spoke at the annual gathering of CPAC.

Proving he is willing to call 'em as he sees 'em, and not following the traditional advice for prospective candidates that it's not a good idea to anger your audience, he jumped right in to challenge the Ron Paul supporters in the crowd, saying of Paul, "He has zero chance of getting elected."

Trump was booed and jeered, but he did not care. He did not couch or backtrack. Instead he looked right into the crowd and then said something that converted the heckles to applause, "If I run, and if I win, this country will be respected again."

What most observers picked up from this small moment was: A) Trump would not be a poll-tested, talking point candidate. B) He would be willing to challenge audiences in front of him, caring less about their applause and more about speaking his own mind. C) There is an authenticity to him. There was something about his speaking up for a newly respected America that rang honest and sincere -- and most importantly, was needed.

Americans have always had a fascination with personalities and families of tremendous wealth and unique celebrity. Think for a moment as to why the upcoming royal wedding is set to be the largest television event in history. There is a capturing of the imagination. There is a bit of envy. And there's even a bit of self-reflective possibility that one could achieve equal fame and riches.

The thing I like most about Trump is his willingness to fight back and not back away, like most GOP candidates. He is not intimidated and he is not scared.

Zero percent?? That's a nice round number for Trump.

Ron Paul isnt getting elected and Trump will not even file to run as president, he just likes the media attention and all the new groupies it brings and he will let them down.

Enjoy him, but dont take him seriously.

Yep. And you can bet the Obama crowd is shaking in their boots and sending out feelers begging Trump to back off.

I hope Trump beefs up his security detail...he is entering dangerous territory.

Trump, will not be running against Obama he will be running against George Soro’s and his Communist followers..I really think he has a chance to beat the scum in the white house..Trump has the money and the power like Soro’s does and when you have that you have a chance to win anything..

As a former New Yorker, I have watched Trump build his career for over 30 years.

IMO, you are dead wrong on this issue.

I think Trump knows exactly what he is doing and will not quit until he wins by either bringing down this illegitimate president or beating him at the polls.

That is what I like about him. I'm so fed up with the establishment candidates. Everyone is afraid to offend dear obama. Give me a break. Obama and his handlers and the democrat party are ruthless and they need to be answered in the same manner.

I do agree with that statement since Trump does love this country..I won’t say a bad thing against that..I am warming up to the fact that Trump might just be the only one that can win against Soro’s and his puppet Obama..

Bill Bennett is a gun-banning RINO. If he said the sun was coming up, I’d watch awhile to see if it was in fact going the other way.

Is Trump just another Ross Perot type meant to fragment the conservative voting base? He's not currently in politics but he's saying all the right things, as did RP.

I remember the reaction of the NYC media when he offered to fix the skating rink at Rockefeller Center at no cost to the city. They made it sound like he was a kook; of course, this was in the late '70's, when the Carter Administration was making life in America seem like a daily train wreck.

Then he did it. It was done. The skating rink was functional again, after years of being boarded up.

His RINO talk show blows too.

Never mind the fact that up until three montsh ago he was a registered Democrat and his last political contribution was $50,000 to Rahm Emmanuel.

Other than that, he's off to a fine start.

That was the Wollman Rink (now the Trump Wollman Skating Rink) in Central Park. Took Trump only 4 months to transform it IIRC.

Trump will do one of two things. If he is successful at bringing down Øbama, it is to clear the way for his pal Hillary Clinton into power. If he fails, he will run as a third party Republican, which he is not, and defeat whomever the Republican candidate is by siphoning off enough of the vote to make a Republican victory impossible. If he really wanted to beat Øbama, he’d be running as a Democrat.

Trump owns and runs the Trump International Hotel & Tower in Chicago. Of course he back Emanuel (and as much as we hate Emanuel...he backed the winner).

That $50K will now turn out to have been a good investment.
