I’m not sure if it works over there but if you’re still in Baghdad and can get the discs, try NetFlix. I’ve been watching Charlie Chan, Mr Moto and Bulldog Crummond vids lately, not to mention one of my fave French films Touche Pas le Grisby (Hands Off the Loot!). I’m kind of on a Jean Gabin kick atm. It’s amazing how much good film there is out there from long ago.

I've known a few people who use Netflix over here. It's kind of a hassle - bandwidth in our quarters can be low and the snail-mail system is very slow.

I buy bootleg DVDs at the Haji-Marts (local stores operating on base) and have even seen a couple of pretty good series like "Mad Men" and "Band of Brothers."

The selections tend to be more current movies and series with a few classics here and there ("American Graffiti," "Dirty Dancing," the "Star Wars" series, etc.) I found "Jaws" and the Batman movie from the 60s not too long ago and those were both great fun to watch.

Naturally, people snap up the series collections of "The Office" and others I've never seen or thought were stupid if I saw one or two like they're going out of style.

I saw "30 Rock" once when I was home. It left me flat. I don't know if I just need to see a few more episodes or it it just sucks.

Wow! Here, here!

I was just thinking the other day that the studios could make bazillions in digitizing their vaults and getting it on either the net or the street.

One reason I think they don’t is that they are recycling a TREMENDOUS amount of it.

Watch TCM quite a bit. It’s catch as catch can.
