Her mouth might be covered, but she won't be silenced.
A veil-wearing Muslim woman who was detained in Paris hours after France's "burqa ban" went into effect yesterday is vowing to fight the controversial law in the European Court of Human Rights.
"This measure is illegal. It is solely designed to oppress women in my position," said Kenza Drider, who wears a traditional Islamic niqab that covers her face, leaving only a slit for her brown eyes.
Drider, a 32-year-old French citizen of North African descent, was briefly detained along with another niqab-wearing woman yesterday for taking part in an illegal demonstration against the law outside the Notre Dame Cathedral.
Although the two devout women were in clear violation of the ban, they were not charged with covering their faces.
They could have been hit with a $215 fine under the law, which has sparked worldwide protests and prompted al Qaeda to threaten retaliation against France. The law also takes aim at cruel husbands who impose Taliban-like restrictions on their wives.
Men caught forcing women to cover up their faces could get a year in prison and a $43,000 fine.
Drider -- one of only an estimated 2,000 women in France who don the restrictive headwear -- vowed to continue flouting the ban, saying she would wear a niqab to go "shopping, to the post office and to City Hall if necessary."

Now, if Europe had FUNCTIONAL governments, they would track down this women and grill and waterboard her husband, to try to figure out why this woman is so BRAINWASHED to have to dress up like a knight to go out to buy a quart of milk.

Easy enough, go where that sort of thing is better appreciated. Mohammed was never, ever in France, so there are no “sacred” ground (takeovers) to guard. It’s not the rest of the world’s responsibility to keep people’s faces masked.

I was kinda thinking to myself — would such a law past muster in the US courts?
I would have to say “NO”.
French politicians from the left and right — including President Nicolas Sarkozy — have portrayed the push to ban veils as a fight for the modern soul of a secular nation.
Sarkozy described the veil as a “sign of debasement.”
French Interior Minister Claude Gueant said the ban protects “two fundamental principles: secularism and the principle of equality between man and woman.”
France does not have a Bill of Rights. In the US, it would be a person’s choice whether or not to wear the Burqa (a subset of the Freedom of Speech) and the constitution protects that right.
If we don't kill political correctness and the DemocRATS' race card, there will be no countries left.
She should go back to her own country.
